Sunday Night Update!

So far so good with Ocean. No visible signs or scraping for the 2nd day.. so things are looking good! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Another small problem has shown up now though. I tested our Nitrates and they were 50! I think bc of moving all of the rock around and the large amount of food that we've been feeding Ocean to keep his strength up it's really affected the tank.

We did a 10g water change tonight and will repeat again to see how that helps. The skimmer has been working great pulling lots of junk out every day.

He eats all day long.

I had to move the seaweed clip. It was too close to my brain which my clowns have decided is their own. So they try and chase him whenever he goes near it to eat. So I moved it to the middle of the tank and everyone is happy again :)

What a beautiful tank! I love the zoas. Good looking dog too! I love the spitz breeds, I have an Akita and I love him like my son! They have such character! Keep up the great work!

Thanks :) It's getting there I guess... really anxious to start adding some new things to it. Will retest nitrates tonight.

Congrat's on the split. The updated tank shots look great, and its good to hear/see ocean doing a lot better.

Cheers

Chris.

Thanks a lot :) He's such a cool fish. I just went down now at 9am to let me dogs out and he swam out of his cave over to where I was to check me out. He's cute :)

Back on pages 24/25 you had some pictures of your light setup. Is this going to be your permenant fixture to support your MH light or is this just temporary?

I was wondering if you had a picture from across the room with the room lights on? I'm goingto be buying a new light this week and I was contemplating weather to buy a hanging kit and doing something similar as to what you've done or buying the leg stands.

My delima is that I'm in an apartment at the moment and hope to move into a house in the next year. I can't hang the light from the ceiling here, but I would like to hang it eventually to free up access to the top of the tank.

What has your experience been?

Thanks

FroMan

Hey!

1. Fantastic thank you!! Bleeding has stopped and he was able to come home and is eating and moving around really well... just tired. He should be at 100% after six weeks.

2. Great! We got our A/C working after sweating it out for a day. The highest the tank got was just over 84 degrees... but we were able to get it back under control and right now it's at it's normal 81. We are keeping it high 24/7 due to the black ich.

3. LoL. Sorry, Taco Night! photos are all gone... only the rejects were left anyway. But I'll take more for you on Fajita Night!

Love him! He is a butthead though. He chases and nips at my clowns, but they nip at him right back. I may actually have to end up moving my brain to keep them away from each other.

I really love Ocean and am glad we got him, but I was not really expecting for him to be such a bully already.. he's only 3". He will only get worse, and I don't think I will be able to add much more to the tank without him getting stressed out quite a bit.

That's okay though cuz we were going to dedicate the tank to him anyway. But I would def caution anyone who wants one with a lot of fish.

Hi FroMan,

So far I really like the way it's worked for us. We were originally hoping that it would only be temporary, but we may end up keeping it like this until we upgrade the tank.

The reason why we had built this kit is because the canopy we have would have placed the MH lights only about 2" above the water level, making our MH bulbs about 6" off the water. And we were already having issues with coral bleaching with the MH bulbs about 8" off the water.

So we built this to hang the lights from so we could lower the lights gradually every week 1" or so at a time. Thus avoiding and hoping to reverse our coral bleaching problem. It has worked very well for us.

IMO, if your goal is to eventually hang the lights from the ceiling, go with what we did and save the money/time. Plus it will give you the option of raising/lowering the lights as needed to avoid coral bleacing also if you ever run into that problem.

To recap earlier posts, here are some photos for everyone just catching up.
