Saturday Night Update!
Today was a fun day.. we drove up to our LFS to check things out.. I'm thinking about setting up another small nano in my room.. so we went to check that out.. and to see a few fish we were interested in getting.
Sooo... there is lots going on with my tank right now. The bad news is it has a bad case of flatworms. I didn't even know what they looked like before.. but it's def them! So we researched ways to get rid of them.
You can medicate the tank and effectively wipe them out, but the risk with that is, when the worms die, they release toxins into the water. You have to run carbon and water changes. Since we have so many worms we decided not to go that route if we don't have too.
I read that mandarins and six line wrasse sometimes will eat them. I've always wanted a mandarin, but was waiting for my pods to develop well. And of course the wrasse is great for a reef tank everyone says.. so we decided to get one of each to see if they help.
Good news! I put both fish in the QT tank but I felt so bad bc the mandarin would have no food in there.. and I tried some brine and she ignored it.. but the wrasse ate it right away... so i put the mandarin back into the main tank and it settled right in. Within 10 minutes it had ate one FW right in front of me! Yay! And after another few minutes it ate another one! 2 down.. 10,000 to go!

We also picked up some awesome Fire & Ice zoas! They are so pretty and bright orange and blue it shines across the room. They are by far the brightest corals in our tank. Really excited to get them.
This was also kinda cool. My bf was fragging some of the zoas off onto another rock.. and while he was doing that.. out popped this!
Soo... hopefully the new zoas do well, my FW's get eaten, and the new Wrasse can be moved over in a few days. I'll take some photos of him once I put him in the main tank.

NG, I had a big problem with FW 4 yrs back, they were really after my clams and I lost 4-5 clams to them, hundreds of them some were as big as 8-10", I tried sixline wrasse and Mandarian, then end up putting Flatworm Exit, 50-60% water change, you can see them coming out of the holes and dying, no ill effect to the tank and after that not a single worm in my tank for the rest of the Tank life.
Yes when they die they will release toxins but i keep on neting them from the water so to make sure they just dont stay their...
If mandarian wont work that will be the last option, but please do use caution....

It's funny you mention that.. today at my LFS they had a used 180, stand, sump, kit, skimmer, current usa fixture and misc parts and plumbing for $3000. If it would have been a better deal we might have bought it! I'm actually glad it wasn't a better deal... it would be so hard to move that.
We are hopefully moving into the new house next summer. Once we move, we'll start the upgrade!

I like the new additions! If I am remembering correctly from a past Reefcast, you shouldn't put mandarins in quarantine. Not only do they not do well because of the lack of pods ect, but Mandarins are not prone to Ich and other diseases because they have a slimy coat on their skin. Even if you remove all your fish from your display because of Ich the mandarin should stay. Then again Ive never owned one but Im sure Melev can chime in 
As for the six-line: :thumbsup: I love mine and have had him for almost a year. Very hardy fish IMO and alway on the move. But once its lights out, he vanishes! Good luck getting a clear photo of him! (Btw ive never had a flatworm problem with him in there *knock on wood)

No, it's okay, I appreciate you looking. I took the zoa frag out and checked it over where I think you were saying to look. I did not see anything that looked like what you're saying out of the water. I took a razor blade and scraped where I put the circle, but the only thing that came off was dead normal live rock stuff. Nothing was white or spiraly or eggy. I think it was just the rock coloration, but I might be wrong.
Let me make sure I am looking in the right spot?

That's really interesting, I didn't know that either! Well that makes me feel a lot better about putting him right into the tank. I was really worried about him not having any food. He looks quite happy so far.

I also read this.. and was very concerned.. bc I also have a purple firefish... but the funny thing was.. at the pet store we went to.. they keep that kinda stuff in small black cubes.. like 4" x 6" x 4" bc of the food supply... and they had the mandarin i bought and the six line i bought in there together.. and we were thinking that if they can live together in such a small place and act fine, we would probably be okay in our tank.
Otherwise we were going to try the mandarin first.. it just ended up that they were together.. almost like fate? How funny is that really.
The employee even told us it might be better to wait and just get one since they can compete for the same food (pods) but we wanted to get them both at the same time since they were living together.
Hopefully we made the right decision!
Yeah hopefully, i bought what i thought was a pair of firefish once. They seemed to be getting along in the tank just fine so i thought forsure they were a pair. Until one made the other take the leap.:-/ but hopefully it works out cause those two are both def some of my favorite fish.

That was the spot exactly... glad it just 'looked' like them! Would be a shame for a nice colony like that to end up nudi-food.
