Thnx! My BTA sux! It moved under my cave. It's literally hanging upside down under the spot where it was. Guess it didn't like something.

Maybe it will like my toilet bowl? HmmmMmMmm???

Toilet bowl!!!!!! No....NOT THE TOILET BOWL!!!!

Hi NanoGurl, My small RBTA went into shrivel up mode, I panicked and gave it several mysis shrimp....It ate them all and got back to being full with bubble tips:D It was getting 2-3 mysis every 2 days but like all other inhabitants in my tank it is a big pig:lol:

I hope your Rbta is doing better, they sure love to get to us :mixed:

Do flatworms come from introducing new corals or pieces of live rock? or both?

The common Red Planaria is visible to the eye. You can see them on LR or corals if you inspect them closely. You also can put the new coral in a white bowl with some tank water, add 3 or 4 drops of Iodine, and use a turkey baster to blast the coral from all sides. If there are any, they should blow off and you'll see them against the white background.

Many have chosen to simply add a few drops of Flatworm eXit to every bag of new livestock. While it is acclimating, the product will kill them so they drop off, or at least weaken them so you can blow them off.

That water would then be tossed out, not added to the tank.

Dammit, it's almost like my tank got infected with flatworms after reading this thread. :(

I just noticed them...here's a closeup, along with two more worthy creatures.

bummer. what ya got there is a flat worm plague. i had the dredded red planeria, but as melev suggested, flat worm exit works great. just dont forget to retreat your tank after a week to dispose of any stragglers, or they will repopulate...

I will, thanks!

Thats a lot of flat worms! Good thing your siphoning out as much as you can because when you hit them with flatworm exit, if there is too many of them, they can release a lot of toxins to crash your tank.

Oh yeah, if the instructions say 40 drops for a 50 gallon tank, just to be sure, use like 50 drops. I've followed the instructions before and at the specified number of drops, some of the flatworms were unaffected. But when I put a few more drops, they started feeling it. Of course watch your tank and siphon any dead ones out and then 10-15 mins after, run carbon and do a water change. You should be fine.

k k cool thanks! :)

That's good :) I am glad to hear yours is doing better!

Mine sucks I hate it lol. It's moved where I can't see it so I'm just going to forget about it and if it comes out great if not oh well.

Not cool! Sorry :(

Tuesday Update!

Okay everyone, sorry for the delay in an update. Really not too much going on right now. We have been looking for a new house which has taken up a lot of our time.

The tank is doing well, as good as it can with FW's everywhere. But they are starting to decline which is a good thing. I placed an order for my Tunze Topoff and got some FW Exit as well. My plan this week is to start siphoning off FW's every day until the medicine arrives and treat the tank. I also picked up some Carbon and some extra seaweed strips for Ocean.

Ocean has been doing great. So far we are on like day 18 of no Black Ich. Hopefully we are done with it. The RBTA is still hiding under the cave. The new zoas and all other corals are doing great. Very happy with how everything is growing and responding.

That's it really! I'm sorry to everyone that has PM'd asking for photos. I promise more action shots soon! :)

You will love the Tunze Osmolator (if that's what you are getting?)
I just sat mine up and remember to put the return in the overflow or you will have a siphon effect. Apparently it can't pump into the sump cause mine siphoned and luckily I caught it in time.

If the water level in the reservoir is higher than the water level in the sump, you'll need to elevate the tubing so that it can't continue draining water into the sump. Moving it up to your overflow did just that, but you can suspend it over the sump instead. The tubing's end must be higher than the water level, and you can have it pour down a length of PVC pipe perhaps. Or drill a small hole in the tubing inside the reservoir to break the siphon.

Also, the tubing that outputs into the sump should never be submerged because it can back siphon water out of the sump and into the reservoir as well.

Marc, I did attach the return hose to the top of the sump and it was at leasr 8 inches above the sump water. I was still recommended (by Roger) to move it to the overflow as this what all the instructions say. I did so that way if something goes wrong it will be less my fault hopefully.

NanoGurl:

Awesome tank set-up. Love the blue tint your MH give off.

I thought I read somewhere on this thread that you were going to purchase a nano reef as well. Did that happen?

The reason I ask, I had recently bought a 24g AP with the 150 HQI MH and love it so far. I hhave a 90g that was a FOWLR but had a Nitrate problem and lost all my fish. Now that I have my nano for a reef (that I have always wanted to start) I am also thinking about upgrading my 90g lights and turning the wet/dry into a sump/refug and starting a reef in that as well. Boy is this hobby addictive.
