NICE! Thanks! I was considering the 75 also because my wife and I are trying to get into a house (god knows how long it will take to save a big enough down payment). I'm sure you know all about that one. Anyway I don't want to move a huge SW tank either. I have enough on my hands with the FW tanks. They are much easier though from what I've heard. Kinda obviously I guess. That's cool that you had africans too! I love them. Oh and I also was thinking the 75 because it fits my budget better right now. With trying to save for a house I probably shouldn't really buy anything.... we all know how this works for us addicts. So I force a fish budget. LOL ! Don't look at me like that! You do it too! Ok well thanks again and I will keep following this thread until I start mine and then I will follow both.
Jeff

Yup, I agree and understand totally. The 75 is a great tank and you will enjoy it. It will help you understand how to take care of SW, as well as be more forgiving if/when you mess up since it's larger volume. You can also plug the holes and use it as a sump later on for your larger tank if you had too!

I also started a pod tank to raise some up for my pipefish and my mandarin. I got my order of pods this afternoon so I setup the tank.

Here is what I got. 3 bottles of live Tigger Pods, 1 bottle of Artic Pods (concentrate dead ones), and 1 bottle of Phyto Feast which is a food concentrate for the pods.

You can see them swimming around all over the place. They arrived in great condition.

I filled a 10g tank half full of clean SW and added one bottle of pods to it.

Then I added enough phyto feast to give the water a small green tinge to it. The pods went right after the food you could watch them eat it.

I also added an air pump for movement. This pump is way too powerful I used it for a koi holding tank previously, but it's all I had. I have it dialed way down on the manifold, but I am going to get a small pump soon for it. No reason to waste all that electricity for nothing.

I have the top covered with acrylic. Now all I have to do is wait! I'm not good at that. I'll update my progress or loss once I know anything.

nice youll have plenty of pods now

my friend that cultures them he lets the water get green is there any way to know how much phyto you should add?

I hope so! They just say add enough to make the water turn color a bit, and when it clears up add more bc that means the food is all gone.

You can do it a lot of ways. You can get a small micron strainer.. or use a sponge.. or siphon them up. I will probably put a ball of chaeto in there and let them go into that and then shake that loose into my tank.

So are you going to culture your own Phyto as well to supplement your culture of pods?

BTW, get one of THESE pumps, I can never tell if mine's actually on unless I look for the bubbles. Its WAY quiet.

Thanks, I plan on getting one. They sell them locally pretty cheap. No, I hopefully won't have to keep the tank up and running too long. I just want to get enough to get both of my tanks started and hopefully break down the pod tank.

Wow after several hours of reading.. and getting yelled at for being on the computer... Nice tank! I've been planning to upgrade for 8 months and just haven't had the time. I can't make up my mind for a 90 or 120g but I love your aquascaping in the 75g. Not too cluttered. I might have missed it but do you have a controller? And I hope the pod test goes well. Might have to do the same. I'm dissapointed that the RC world had to give you problems about your post. I for one wish more women were into Reef keeping. I go through all the effort to work on the tank and my girlfriend might look at it for 5 seconds once a month. If I'm lucky. RC doesn't need to bash you... they need to find a way to clone you. LOL keep up the good work. :)

If more of you ladies would put your real first name in your signature line, we'd have a clue and treat you better. ;)

And FYI, this thread will split in 23 more posts. Time to create a recap post again for the first page in the new split, NanoGurl. :)

melev, I'm glad you are tagging along. I've never talked to you much but always find your advise helpful. NanoGurl, you have a lot of good people on here willing to help, don't let the bad ones spoil the fun. One thing I've always wanted to do was put a nano tank somewhere else in the house, maybe upstairs, that is connected to the main tank. It would make the water quality and temp problems in a nano almost impossible. When they build your house you should have them run a seperate set of power lines and water lines ran to a room upstairs that could be connected to your main display. Hook it up to your sump and timers. Although I would be worried about a power outage draining all the water in the lines into the sump... then overflowing... well it might be a good idea.

haha :P I don't think RC wants two of me... i think one is enough. It didn't really bug me, I just didn't want my post to be a joke... i think there is a "generation" gap that makes it more difficult sometimes... i don't think many people on RC "get me." I really wanted to make my thread a blog.. but I scaled that back quite a bit.

No, I don't have a controller on my 75. I would go with the 120 over a 90, but I need a six foot tank for my tang so the 120 is out for me.

Thanks for the complements =)

I don't want you to treat me better bc I'm a girl. I want to be treated like I kinda know what I'm doing and have a nice tank for what it is.

Yay! Not really much has happened lol. I will though, thanks for the heads up!
