Why? What is the difference?

You could always try to mount yours vertically. This helps prevent channeling and increases efficiency.

Yes, they are sold as SpeedFit fittings. Another name is John Guest fittings.

The nice thing about them is that you just cut the tubing and press it into the ends, tug slightly and you're done. The blue retaining clips pictured above make sure the tubing stays in place. Home Depot also sells 1/4" icemaker tubing in the same section.

Remove the retaining clip if you have it, then make sure the tubing is cut nice and cleanly (a kitchen knife will do it, or a utility knife), then press it into the collet firmly until it can't go in any further. Tug slightly to seat it. Done.

If you have to remove the tubing, press the collet with your fingernail so that it is tight against the fitting, and the tubing can be pulled out again. The collet is the thing that grips and releases.

Okay thanks! That really helps. I never set up the RO/DI unit when we got it so I don't know a lot about it. I have to goto HD tomorrow anyway I will look and see what they got.

I just bought a new RO/DI unit and I also bought an electronic tester. It has an input line and output line. Which you could put the input line before the unit or before the membrane. It's pretty cheap and is so easy. Turn it on and read it. I'll see if I can get a line for ya. Plus, I've always been told if you replace the membrane, replace the other filters at the same time. If not, the membrane will get dirty alot faster without the new filters in front of it.

Thanks for the link, that's pretty interesting!

Whats channeling?

that is when the water finds a certain 'path' through the resin which leaves parts unused... mount it vertically and it has to fill up around all of it... hard to explain

Once the DI is spent it will actually add stuff to the water, thats what could be causing your TDS readings to be high.

Monday Update!

Today we went shopping for our granite counter tops. We got a chance to goto a factory that cuts them onsite and got to pick out the exact slabs that we wanted.

It was pretty interesting to see how big their operation was and their selection. They used big cranes to pull out huge sections for us to look at.

Photos of their factory where they cut the granite.

And two hours later! What we chose =) They are going to measure on Wednesday and install within two weeks =)

Very nice NG, Granite is definitely the way to go. We chose granite for our kitchen upgrade and after a year we are still impressed at it's beauty. Very earthy / natural looking and has been very durable.

What a perfect missed opportunity for some action shots! You could have been skating across the granite or dangling from one of the giant cranes!

That's awesome that they brought you inside to see the works. They must have been secret admirers...:strooper:

Don't mind me asking what brand of cabinets you are going to use?

That's a good ? I don't even remember the name of them... it was whatever the builder had. Sorry.

Thanks :) That's good to know. Did you treat your granite with anything? I heard something about a sealer.. never had granite so I don't know.

G'day Ng,

Are you able to get caesar stone instead of granite? I can only tell you based on prices in Australia, that's it's a little dearer in price, but is a hell of a lot better a product than granite.

It's a nice finish, looks similar in a sense (I like it better), and healthy than granite. It does not absorb any of the bacteria's that granite can. I've spoken to cabinet makers here, and they recommend it, and prefer to install it for the above reasons, not just because it's a little extra in cost.

As for your Ro/Di units, I can't believe you have to cut in your own tee's. Geez we get it good here in Australia  Mine comes already to go. When photobucket comes back online, I'll post a pic for you.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks for the info. I really like Granite so that's what we went with. I don't like the look of some of the other engineered products. That might change if the granite care is more then I hoped for in a few years =)

Yea, when we bought the RO/DI unit we didn't know much. We got it off ebay. Oh well!

No worries, just a suggestion ;)

When I bought my ro/di unit, i just looked on the forums. But I must admitt, I haven't seen any in the states with a similar set-up
