So you are the one that keeps sending me those viagra emails. I've been wondering who knew about my lack of prowess.

Marc, While your here thanks for all the info, I have followed alot of your threads and visited your website. You are a big help.

Thank you

Marty

Hey NG are you gonna do a thread on the Tech 120? That is a beautiful tank! I went from a 90 to a 180 and there are many times I wish I went with a Tech 120 instead! You are gonna love the depth for aquascaping. I really dig the center overflow and the glass that the Tech series are made of! Looking forward to seeing pics. Did you get the Oceanic sump also?

I'm not sure if I am going to do a new thread, upgrade this thread, or just post a few photos now and then here. I really can't decide :/

We are going to use a 40g breeder for a sump and build it ourselves.

Wow that looks great! Your tank is gorgeous.

Yes, I love the phoenix look.

Well, I wasn't sure how to hang them nicely so it would look good. Haivng a cord running to the celing, then the power cord out the back probably won't look the best with two small stand alone fixtures. That's why I was thinking the larger system would look better.

Thank you. That is still sort of an old picture, I need new ones. Have you decided on the lighting yet? I read the post about turning the pendants. I agree that it would be okay if the reflectors were the same on all four sides. Some aren't like mine and I think it might cover less area if I turned it.

It is too bad that you have a nice clean look when hanging lights, but still have ugly power cords to deal with. I wish I could change that.

Awesome news! Glad to hear you have made the decision to upgrade. Can you pm me with the info of where you go it locally? I'm in your area too! My wife and I are in the planning stages of the 180 upgrade I have gotten a few quotes on the tank but perhaps who you got yours from I haven't talked to yet.

Thanks!

Do to not having the center brace in the middle and having the brace thats raps along the top tank you are going to loose 3" of light penetration that reaches the tank because of the brace. Im guessing the tank depth is 24.5 but In all reality The brace on top knocks It down to 18.5 of light to go through. And also picture trying to put seaweed clip in and having to reach around the brace, basically you will sticking your whole hand in the tank each time to remove it and ad more. It Is a really nice tank but IMO nice Isnt allways user friendly. I have 90 tech tank and at a depth of 18" and a 6" loss because of the brace Its become an Issue with lighting and Im only running 4 x 54w T5. I basically have room for one bulb and thats It, anything more would be blocked by the brace. IMO MH are the only way to go do to the tank specs.

Sorry If It sounds It bit confusing and long but just thought I would let you know. Good Luck with your build.

I see how that could be an issue. I have a 12" glass brace right down the middle of my 90g, which I hoped wouldn't be an issue. I clean it regularly to help with the salt that gathers from typical splashes so the light can penetrate effectively. It's annoying to try to reach around it to gain access to the space below, as well. Other than a rimless tank, I'd probably prefer the wraparound brace over my 12" glass brace. I guess it's the lesser of two evils.

To give a better perspective this Is the 3" brace that raps the top of the tank, can be a pain trying to reach around and you can see the tank width loss from the top that light cant get through. A T5 reflector i think Is about 2.5 inches wide so basically It would be useless over front or rear of the tank with this brace.

Yea... it does kinda suck! hehehe

Have not decided for sure yet... Probably 2 x 250w Phoenix.

Not at all, I understood exactly =)

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you totally, and had already thought about that before purchase. For my MH I don't think that will be a problem, and I already stick my whole hand into the tank as I place the nori down low for my tangs.. so I think it will be just fine for my setup.

Really? Has anyone else done this with good results?

Well, Marc runs his reflectors perpendicular to the tank for starters. :) With a square reflector like the LumenMax, the light throw should be square as well so it won't make a difference if the bulb is parallel or perpendicular to the tank (to a large extent anyways).
