NARC April Meeting

Howdy Folks.

I have moved back to my hometown in Virginia. I'm going to miss you all and coming to the meetings. I am planning on keeping up with the Chattanooga frag swaps and maybe some of the others (Kentucky, etc.) so hopefully I'll see some of you at those also. Oh, who's going to MACNA XX in Atlanta?

If I can find an excuse to be in Alabama the week after next, I might just try to stay over for the weekend and come to the meeting!

C-Ya!

Hi all, what time is good for everyone? This is the first meeting I have hosted but have been to quite a few. Does anyone want to bring a dish?

I don't really have anything planned to go over besides my tank, so if anyone has any suggestions you are welcome to bring them. Also frag trading is always a great feature of meetings.

I planned on pot luck style get together at lunch time as you suggested earlier.

Well, let's work out the detail. I suggest starting at 12:00 pm.
I will bring a Tex Mex style salad with black eye peas. I will also bring a couple of SPS frags for Cameron/corallinedreams. Is anyone else bringing a frag or two?

I have a few IMAC DVD's. We watched one of them at Corallinedreams awhile ago. We also watched Eric Borneman's presentation about "Reef Aquarium Myth" but that was a long time ago. I have a few others. Do any of you want to watch a reef related DVD?

Tomoko

There's about a 50/50 chance I can make it.
If so, I'll be bringing a few frags if anyone is interested...anthelia, xenia, M. digitata ... these are the ones that I've GOT to weed out.
:)

I have a job to do in Decatur this coming week so I am going to stay over for the Saturday meeting.

If anyone wants frags, I will bring some.
Let me know sometime this weekend if you want some because some of them I will need to cut fresh this weekend.

I will post some pictures of the mother corals on the NARC website shortly after this post. In case you forgot it's www.northalabamareefclub.com
It's running over a satellite dish now so if it times out, be sure to try it again. Sometimes it takes a minute to "wake up".

Here's what I have available:

Light Green Candy Cane / Trumpet (Caulastrea furcata)
Pink Pulsing Pom Pom Xenia
Green Star Polyps
Peach Kenya Tree (Lemnalia I believe)

It's a long trip but I have an A/C inverter that plugs into my car so I keep them in a small cooler with a miniature heater for the ride. When I get to my hotel, I'll set them up in the cooler and run a small power head to keep them going. Unless Tomoko can take them to her house til the meeting...

See you guys soon!

Cameron, I would like some Candy Cane Trumpets :)
Mariner, I will take what every you have to weed out. I don't know off hand what anthelia or M. digitata is but I'll take it.
Christina (wife) said she will cook hamburgers for everyone. So we will provide the hamburger and buns with fixings. Tomoko said she is brings a nice salad dish. Does anyone want to bring drinks and sides.

Also please chime in if you are reading this if you haven't replied already so we can get a head count.

Tomoko - I have a large TV in the living room that I can play the DVD on. We can let it play and let any one watch it who wants.

Reilly won't be coming since he will be fishing in Kentucky over the weekend.

I don't know if Bob and Verdell are coming or not. Bob mentioned something about going to see Verdell's family around that time.

Tomoko

We have Hamburger, Chips and Dip, texmex salad and dessert. So we need plates, cups, ice, napkins and drinks and anything else anybody wants to bring (especially more dessert!) LOL

Here's something the Nashville group is trying at their next meeting. Quoting from their thread:

"We are going to do something a little different at this meeting with the hopes of stimulating more frag trading. To do this, we are going to have a mini FRAG SWAP. This is how I hope it will work. Everyone that can, people new to the hobby are exempt from this, needs to bring 3 frags to the meeting. Two of these frags must be traded. The third frag will be used as a raffle prize for those new to the hobby who are unable to bring frags to the meeting. We are not going to aren’t going to make any hard set rules as to who is “new to the hobby” and shouldn’t bring frags and who should. Just use your own judgment as to which class you fall into. Of course, you can also bring additional frags to trade or sell if you would like. But if you bring frags to sell, you should also have the three frags for the trading/raffle."

It might be too late to get the word around for this Saturday (or maybe not), but I wanted to mention it for discussion. I know I will be glad to participate.
