NARC April Meeting

That sounds like a good idea. Shall we let newbies to put their name/ticket on the individual frags they want like they do the raffle in the regional frag swap? What shall we do with the earning from the raffle? Do you want original owners to get the earning?

If we can get the rules worked out here before April meeting, I think we can try it. I suppose a number of people have some frags to spare. Otherwise, we can discuss this further in the meeting and try it in our May meeting at CRA.

The way I see it there will be two "classes" of attendees: Newbies and Non-Newbies. Some of the Non-Newbies can volunteer to participate in the Swap/Giveaway. They will bring three frags, two to swap with others who are participating and one to give away to the Newbies via a drawing of some sort. There won't be any "earnings". All of the persons who have designated themselves as "Newbies" will draw until all of the "give away" frags are gone. No money will change hands. This will be a means for those of us who have frags to spare to share with those who are getting into the hobby. Maybe this will attract more new people to the meetings.

Why not just encourage people with spare frags to bring them to share? I don't see the need to make a big production number out of it with rules. You won't need to encourage people with xenia to bring their extras!

I kind of like Harry's idea...some sort of free drawing for newcomers using frags donated by some of us non-newbies...might attract some newcomers.

We used to trade frags a bit more. The club actually started from a few of us getting together to trade frags at Pet Gallery (cause Greenbean was not allowed to go to stranger's house yet :D) It would be really nice if we could encourage people to come to our meetings.

I am up for some two part never used it before but have heard his speech about it. I would not consider myself a newbie but my corals haven't grown enough to frag out yet. Hopefully someday soon they will start growing much faster. My xenia just started to split up and move different ways so thats a start. My SPS's are okay but slow.

I still need to buy more...

Also, a rule at our house is no shoes in the house. I would like to post this before anyone comes so I don't have to ask everyone about it. If we have thing going on outside our patio is nice and clean so socks or bare feet don't get dirty. So a good pair a slip-on type shoes are great. I wear crocks a lot and they work great. However, if you are unable to take your shoes off for some reason or another it is okay for you to leave them on, I will not make a scene about it. My grandfather is one those people... My father inlaw is another but I yell at him and he takes them off :)

I am always telling people about NARC that I meet at the local fish stores. I was thinking about making cards with the instructions on how to get into our reef central forum.

Harry

if you get time pls post for this mad scientist. Thanks in advance

I will try to bring some soda, chips, potato salad. (or whatever else is available where ever I stop at on the way to the meeting :) ). Please let me know if there is something else that would be better.

It would be nice to have 3 pound plastic containers to take the diy 2 part chemicals home with. I have almost exhausted my supply from several coffee funds at work here. So even if you don't plan to take some but have an extra container, please bring the container. I will bring printed labels which is extremely important as the calcium and magnesium chloride look alike.

I have calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and Epsom salts. So all you need to setup the diy 2 part is baking soda.

I'll also bring some crushed oyster shells which I use as filter material in my diy wet/dry as filter material. (highly efficient super technical design------- a waste basket with the bottom cut out. LOL)

looking forward to seeing all of ya.

I wish that we could make it but I think Karen we have grandkids coming. Do you have directions just in case plans change and we can make it?

Bob,
I need some of the magnesium chloride...used up all I had on my last batch of supplement. At least I think I did...I do have a little bag of something (mag, calcium or ????) that's unlabeled

Does anyone have two spare plastic clothes pins I could have? I am using two wood ones to hold my powerheads in place and the wood is touching the water. I looked at walmart but couldn't find any. If anyone has a pair they could spare please bring them to the meeting.

Thank you

Yes. Ditto that. You have a beautiful home and a really nice setup. Thanks for hosting us. Those burgers were awesome too!

It was nice to see everyone and some new faces too.
Hope to see you guys again real soon!

Mary Ruth and I add our thanx to Curtis and Christina for opening your home to us for our meeting. The food was great. Your in-wall tank setting is very attention getting as well as the tank itself and the livestock.

Thanx again.

Ditto to all of the above.

Your tank and your set up are great!! Your in-wall set up with the back open shows off your colorful fish very well.

Sakura-chan has grown so much. She's a cutie!
