Naso introduced - Achilles heckling

Hey guys, I just had a quick question. I just introduced my Naso to my tank about 20 minutes ago. My achilles which is about 3 inches was already in the tank. So i got a bigger naso, he is probaby 4 inches. I have the lights off and fed the others before i introduced him. My tank is a 180 and there easily enoigh room. The achilles will swim at him when he sees him from time to time. Not to crazy just kind circle around each other a little. the naso doesnt seem to care to much.. It is seemig to calm down a little. Do you think they will be fine? Is this pretty normal? Does the aggression usually end to die down after a bit?

When i first setup mytank my plan was to put the blue and naso in first before te achilles but plans arent always perfect and my last naso died before intro to DT. Thanks for any help or tips or stories. Kevin

Which Naso? Naso literatus? All in the family are peaceful but the Achilles is not. Still if there is no overt fighting you may come out ok. I would not do any Naso in a 180 however as they get BIG.

Thakns for the replies... i plan to only have this tank for a year... two at the most. I hope to upgrade to atleast a 300. It is a blonde naso (Naso elegans). 4 out o 5 people have them together on the Primer. He goes at him from time to time but everyone in the Achilles Primer said that they go after stuff and heckle i for the first few days to show who is king of the tank.

Would taking the achilles out for a few hours and placing him back in the tank make him not show as much dominance if it thinks its new territory? Just an idea... i am new tothis. In my previous tank, my yellow tang did the same to a blue hippo that i introduced...

that's a lot of tangs in a 180!!! yeah i would upgrade within the time frame of a year at least. If you tap the glass when they get fiesty, the bad one get's the message. When my fish act up, i just move my hand towards the glass and they get scared. sounds stupid but it works for me.

Lol the tapping on the glass makes me laugh because i did the same thing. When he would act up i noticed myself tapping on the glass and talking to it likes its my dog... "Knock it off!" lol...

The achilles is a jerk to my coral banded shrimp also.. He just likes to pick on others. he reminds me of the "Odoyalls" in Billy Madison.

If it is not persistent, you are likely to be fine

I would not do this, no reason to cause that much stress

My Achillies has no issue with my other tangs with the exception of my naso, they don't like each other, I thought it was maybe that they are both males??

They seem to be good now. They are swimming and eating right by each other and fine. Every little bit they circle a little seeing what the other is doing.. seem to be fine. Thanks for the reply Snorvich i appreciate it. They arent hitting each other at all.

Update. They are doing great now. Eating right next to each other.. Swimming around together. The only time they seem to get in a hickup is if they are battling over the cleaner shrimps services :D. I think i may have to get another so they each have their own. LOL

I have multiple cleaner shrimp in both tanks. Seems to alleviate competition although fish still line up.

When my LFS gets more in next week i plan on getting atleast one more. Snorvich thanks for your help today.

Naso tangs are a lot tougher than other people think. IMO a 7" Naso can hold his own with most aggressive fish. The size of your tank could become a problem. I hope you have a very open aquascape.

i do its open and doesnt go high, with many holes to the back side of tank. Back is also all open

Perfect. They are eating Nori off the clip right next to each other. The naso is a goof ball he rips a huge piece off and then spits it out and it floats around the tank.. But all in all its going well. He loves picking at algae on the rocks and the back wall. Thanks for the follow up Snorvich.
