Naso Tang tank size

Good evening,

I Have a 36 gallon bow front tank and was looking for a tang to put in it. I realize that most tangs need a larger tank, but would 36 be enough for a naso? I am possibly getting for now ready to buy a 225 but the 36 is what I have, thank you in advance

Reef Central's recommended tank size for tangs can be found here. No tang should be housed in a 36 gallon tank even temporarily.

Wow seems like a complete troll post. Hopefully your joking and not serious that's basically animal cruelty and even a 200-300 won't suffice.

guess people cant be new to the hobby and ask for advice, thought this was supposed to be helpful community. Obviously its nice so I am through with this site thanks

Please don't let "old salties" ruin your experience here. While your choice of a naso for that size tank is inappropriate, and likely a simple search of this forum would have given you this answer, it is sometimes hard for those of us that have "been around block" to answer such questions with assumed lack of knowledge on your (the OP's) part. I'm on completely non-reef related forums, and ask questions that get totally ridiculed, but I just take it with a grain of salt.

36g is too small for any tang imo. If you are doing it no matter what people say, then try tomini tang. I'd feel bad putting a tang in such a small tank though. Naso needs a big tank 250g+

Sorry man, this was just so far left field considering the sticky at the top of this page about sizes for tangs, also you pick the largest tang possible.

If your looking for fish to fit in a tank your size, I would check out the nano section on live aquaria

I have a naso in a 90 gallon and he's doing fine. Anything smaller than a 90 especially a 30 or so will just stress the fish. Go with a zebrasoma species not naso literus

Uh... Nasos get HUGE. I don't think a 90 is big enough for one long-term. How large is yours?

I really hope that is your qt tank because your naso will be too large for that tank in a year if not sooner...

I had a Naso in a 10 foot long-300 gallon tank before my down grade to the 180 and all it did was swim from one side to the other all day long. I felt like there wasn't enough room for him. Obviously sold him when I down graded. It is a shame because it is my favorite tang.

unfortunately what I am learning about this hobby is that when it comes to Fish the motto is sell now and sell fast. Everyone wants to dump a fish before it dies on them. Basically what I am saying is please please do research before listening to the LFS they will tell you its fine to put a leopard shark in a 30 gallon tank. They need to sell fish fast before they die on them and lose money. I know a lot of these people have good intentions but they are still in business to make money. I listened to the LFS and now I have a baby Naso in a 90 gallon and feel awful my kids are attached so It's hard to get rid of it. But I will do what I have to because it's just cruel having him in this size tank. The problem is I am afraid to move it so quick I don't want to stress it out more and bring it to the LFS. I am trying to find an aquarium in town to donate it to so it will have tons of room.
