Naso Tang

He is out swimming around a bit now, but not touching much food. I tried the lettuce, garlic soaked Nori, and now fresh spinach. It appears he will eat the particles that break off of the Nori though.

His stress spots are everywhere, but now that he is swimming around and enjoying the waves, they seem to be getting a bit better. I have backed off on putting nori in everyday because its starting to develop a bit of an algae issue since its not being eaten and just falls apart.

Going to order some different kinds of seaweed (purple, red), unless anyone knows a grocery store that carries it?

the rods packs have dried purple/red but not sure where to get fresh.

fwiw, every juvenile I've seen has spotting beyond the stress spots. I think it clears up as they mature.

I've been wondering what the tang has been eating. After doing regular maintenance I noticed that the zoa colony that I recently bought was pretty much gone. He allowed me to watch him without running away and I witnessed him eating them.

Hopefully that stops once/if he starts accepting frozen foods and nori.

I hope so, its not uncommon for fish to find something edible when they arent eating ptepared foods. At least he has the desire to eat and hopefully he starts going after prepared foods, you said he eats bits of nori floating around? Maybe try crumbling it up when you feed other items and he will start eating everything.

He started eating the Nori last night! Out of frustration I clipped some nori to the side of the tank. He swims up to it and rips a piece off and lets the current take it so he can chase it.

He is still picking off the Zoas, but I don't think its worth it to put him into my fuge because of it. I don't want to stress him out since he is finally coming around.

Thank you for the advice, Xanthurum. Unfortunately he hides if I raise the cover at all. I will try it though once he gets a bit more comfortable with me.

Update and a question:

So the Naso is eating pretty much everything now. Got him eating meaty foods after putting live brine in. He eats about a 2inchx3inch piece of Nori every day now.

I put a bonded goby/shrimp into the tank about two weeks ago now and the Naso attacked the goby for a few minutes surprisingly and I believe he killed the shrimp. I haven't heard of an aggressive Naso before, but I think I have one!

My question is about what appears to be tissue damage. I'm wondering if the pistol shrimp put up a fight or maybe he cut himself on a rock. Think its tissue damage or something else?

Sorry for the quality

I ordered some vitamins to soak his Nori in with hopes that it will help him heal.

He is about 4 1/2 inches now, Incapearl.

I wouldnt worry to much just yet if it gets worse then you may have a fungus but if he is eating and happy it may be nothing.
