Nassarius bredding?

Nass eggs:

I thought that I caught a picture of my nassarius snail laying eggs on my glass. I end up with these eggs all the time over the last two weeks and one have one trochus snail in my tank...

I was amazed at how many eggs my Nassarius snails laid all over my tank.

Well, first thing's first...I had recently set up my first salt water tank and after it cycled, I went to my Mom's to see if she had a few snails I could get from her 120 gallon. There were these eggs that kind of reminded me of Assassin snail eggs (Anentome helena, I believe) all over the front of her tank (everywhere, really). Then, she showed me the egg layers...they were the Nassarius snails. They REALLY reminded me of Assassin snails. I told her I loved them and brought home a dozen Nassarius, Nerite, and Cerith snails (gotta love Moms!).

I was thinking how nice it'd be to have a few baby snails in my tank, but I tried not to get too excited. I knew I needed to get the right conditions, etc for them, so I was prepared to wait since they probably wouldn't breed right away. The very next morning after introduction into my tank, there were eggs on the front glass. I was like...WOW! These guys don't waste any time! The next day more eggs...and then more eggs. By now, a few weeks has passed and I notice my front glass needs cleaned of biofilm, algae, etc. Of course, I don't want to damage or remove any eggs. I want to see if I get any babies. Then, as more time passes, the visibility of my front glass gets bad enough where I'm trying to peer through and around biocrap on the glass that should have been cleaned 3 weeks ago.

Long story short (is it too late for that?)...they are Nassarius eggs, and if yours are like mine, they are all over the tank, so don't be afraid to just go ahead and clean your front glass.

That's just my experience, and how I reacted. , and that's all I have to say about that. ;}

I have read that they are hard to breed. Obviously, depending on species, that's not true! Whether the eggs hatch (I've seen mine hatch) and whether the babies make it to adulthood is another story. I have some little baby white snails in my tank, but they could be another species for all I know. I haven't had this tank set up long enough to definitely say I've seen the population increase.

Anyone else here have them breeding and the babies making it to adulthood?

Are those the little nassarius species that are laying eggs? I have the huge tongan nassarius, and have never had them lay eggs.

They are of the Nass. Vibex variety. Fish will eat the eggs, and the only reason I had success in the eggs hatching is because I was fish-less for a little while. I have seen babies crawling around on the sand and sides of the tank. Not very many, maybe two. I probably had about 1000 egg sacks, so the survival rate is not great, and they are so small still that I could easily see them getting eaten by my hermits.

I guess I'm having luck because the only thing in my tank right now is a micro Brittle Starfish, amphipods, a few Nerites, and a dozen Nassarius (yes, Vibex variety). I see lots of babies crawling in the sand. Occasionally, one will venture up the glass so I can get a look at it.
