Nassarius enjoying a $5 shrimp cocktail

Bought three peppermints yesterday since the population seemed to have taken a hit, and this is what greeted me when I came down to clean the tank today. Sheesh, I wish I was eating that well. I have four or five Nassarius, and they've been growing like crazy, I guess now I know why.

About 20 minutes later, Snail #1 is gone and #2 moves into position. There is not much if anything left, and the carcass looks like a molt. Nonetheless, he sticks his sucky-feeding-tubey thingy (probiscus?) all the way down the shell. You can see it in this picture, but unfortunately the macro function on this Canon a570 is not that great.

Pretty interesting to watch.

I've kept shrimp and Nassarius snails together for years. My guess is that those shrimp were in trouble and that the snails were just cleaning up the dead.

Quite possible, as I said they went in the tank yesterday after the usual 1 1/2+ hr acclimation. From a LFS I trust. But you never really know until you have them in a tank a few days. I also bought three snails, and one of them has not traveled very far in the last 24 hrs, so I'm not sure I expect him to make it either..
