Nassarius snail attacking Trochus snails

Just wondering if this is normal. . I have a Nassarius snail, have had him since I started the tank. (early January of this year) Have gone through several Trochus snails already. . Water changes are regular, and don't overfeed. (tank has been fishless since February, due to clown passing away from ich) I caught the Nassarius snail latched onto the new Trochus snail, separated him several times, but he always went back. Needless to say, that new Trochus is no more. .he's not moving. I'm guessing I'm going to have to get rid of the Nassarius snail and just get Trochus snails, that I can't have both? Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Sounds like you may have a whelk snail, rather than a nassarius. Google predatory whelk snails and see if that might be your problem.

Ugh, thought I bought my Nassarius snail from a reputable store, but guess I'll have to take him back. Though since I 've had him for several months, don't know if they would take him. Probably will only have Trochus snails from now on, lesson learned. Poor snails.

Thanks for the links. . he did appear to be a Nassarius snail, but I wasn't taking any chances. Ended up taking him to the fish store, and the person working there said he was a Nassarius. Ended up getting two Trochus snails instead.
