I was wondering if anyone had any experiences or tips on Nassarius snails and/or red legged hermit crabs? Do you need to make a point to ensure that they are receiving sufficient amounts of food, etc? Or should I assume that they scavenging enough leftover food?

thanks in advance

My Nassarius snails usually come out at night or when I feed and go for the pellets at the bottom, the red legged hermits usually wander and graze all day long all over the tank.

agree.. no problems generally. i actually have problems with blue leg hermits and nass/cerith snails. for some reason they really like to use their shells..

Blue legs are notorious snail killers... they will also take down bigger scarlets with ease.... out of most " REEFSAFE " hermits, they are the most aggressive.

Yup, when I had blue-legged hermits, they eventually killed every one of my ceriths.

Never had a problem feeding nassarius or hermits though - the usually just scavange whatever food falls to the bottom.

Scarlets are great for dietrus and excess food but from what I've heard blue legs are also good with tiny hairalgae as well plus what a scarlett does. just more aggressive.

If you feel like they are not getting enough food, drop an algae disk in there (the ones you feed to pl*costomus and other algae eaters!)

My red legs have been taking out my snails. I now have 9 reds with shiny new snail shells.
