Nate's Elos Mini Build Thread

All your parms good. Is it stable? Some of my SPS started to STN back then 'cause of my ALK's been fluctuating but finally coming back. LED's also tend to change the color of some of my sticks. Just give it time on the brown ones and should bounce back in no time.

So i've lost four acro frags in the last couple weeks. All STN from the base. This sucks. All my monti's and other corals are growing fine. The only acro that is doing great is my ORA purple plasma.
Water params today:

Sg: 1.026
pH: 8.0
Alk: 9.0kh
Ca: 435
Mg: 1400
PO4: 0.00
Temp: 78-79

All test were taking this morning before lights came on. I've been dosing 11ml of two part very consistently daily.

Your parms are good...unless they've been fluctuating lately. It's hard to get all parms stable in a small tank like ours. I do test more often now, twice a week, compare to my previous tank(57 gallons). Check for any bugs too...you never know.

Hope everything bounces back for you. Keep us posted.

Will do Mav. Question for Elos mini owners, Do you guys still use a filter sock? If so, how often do i have to change it?? I hate socks...

I still use one and I change it once a week, right before a water change. I heard the mesh ones take longer to get clog.

I "have" to use a sock. Otherwise, the microbubbles from the skimmer would get into the display tank. Although I would prefer running without, it's not really a big deal "“ I bought a lot of them, and once I am on my last one I throw them in the washer.
(My drain goes into the same sock)

I replace the sock about once every two weeks.

I only use the sock by where the skimmer's output. No bubbles in my DT.....lucky I guess..hehe.
The drain does not cause bubbles for me, but I just thought that if I have to use a sock for the skimmer anyway, I might as well just place the drain there as well – sump stays clean that way :)

-As you can see, I steered away from SPS for awhile. They weren't holding up. Ill give my tank more time to mature before I add more of them.

Oh and the fish (one of each):

  • ORA Black Clownfish (Jay Z)
  • Sixline Wrasse (Super aggresive)
  • ORA Neon Goby (Always perches on corner seam of tank)
  • ORA Orchid Dottyback (She's super tiny and found a cave)
  • Potter's Angel (Favorite fish)

-All parameters are doing great. Finally getting my Alk in balance. Stays around 8.0 with dosing 5ml of 2 part daily. I do a 20% water change about once a month.

-I still don't have any coraline algae yet, I think i need to introduce it on a rock. And yes my Calcium stays around 440.

Nice tank, Nate. If I was to go 20g I'd get an ELOS. How's the Angel? Nipping any corals? That's a crazy looking 'shroom. Will be interesting to see how it ultimately colors up.

I really wish I wouldn't have looked at this thread! After a bunch of aggression from my coral beauty lately I decided to move it into a friends 315g and replace it with a potters angel! :) It's already on order at my LFS...

I hate it when other people's threads cost me money!!! :headwallblue: :mixed: :)

@ange062 - Ha the potters is amazing. it took me 3 months to find one.

@nemesis7 - Thanks, but I think i need a couple more months for some growth. Still a couple things I want to change. Oh, and I still need a camera. These are all iPhone pics.

Ich killed all of my fish a couple months ago and I haven't added anymore. Just hooked up the doser, so ill be adding sps soon.

hey random question. did the rics come that way or did you have to remove them from whatever frag plug you had and placed them where they are now?

just curious how you got them the way you wanted them to stick on the rocks that way
