I just got some nsw from 18 miles offshore. I would like to add it to my tank but do not want to introduce any parisites to the 2 fish I added a week ago. Is this something I should worry about?

I have used it before but not with new fish. I think it adds a great number of zooplankton, etc. I used to get massive swarms of mysid shrimp in my old tank.

I have used it for water changes ,and my SPS corals love it. I collect on an incoming tide just before high tide. I pump from about 6 feet down. I haven't had problems with parasites at all. Red Tide would be a problem ,but I don't collect water when red tide is in the area. I change out approximately 80 gal. at a time. Ted BTW I'm also running 80 watts of UV.

I wouldn't worry about parasites, but you'd better be sure there are no pollutants in it in significant amounts. From 18 miles offshore tho' I would think you would be ok

Been using NSW from NY in my reef for 36 years. Never had a problem. Havent had ich in about 25 years and I usually just dump it in.

You don't have to go far offshore to collect NSW. Just use your head like already noted in this thread. Collect at just before high tide in an area with low traffic, either motor or people. Then run that through a mircon sock filter and voila......you got saltwater ready to go! I have been using it since setting up my tank here in FL. I think it is well worth the trouble to collect it. Kinda funny that the people that criticize NSW are the ones that have never tired it  Try it and speak from experience and you may feel different :)

thats all I use! and Ive never had any problems...just dont let it sit for more then 24 hours after collected b/c ammonia can build up from what was living and died...
