Natural sea water salinity

Why the NSW salinity of reef area is about 1.025~1.026 but almost all of saltmix recommends a salinity of 1.020~1.022?
Also, some hydrometer maked 1.020~1.022 as recommended.

Because 1.020 to 1.022 is fine for most fish. If I were running a fish only tank, I would target that range.

However, corals do better with a little bit higher salinity.

Thats the short answer... real ocean numbers vary by ocean, latitude, and tons of other factors.

The n.pacific is about 2 parts per thousand lower than the n.atlantic or example.

most fish can handle 1.022 pretty well. Its also cheaper you use less mix.

Heh, that is funny though isnt it. You'd think the company selling the salt would try to tell you to put in the maximum healthy amount of salt so they can sell more of it!

they tell you to use less so they can say that the 150 gallon bucket makes 150 gallons, when in reality it doesn't, so you need to buy more of it. they ain't stoopid.. ;)
