So I thought I should post my final reef endeavor. I am graduating from a 75 gallon in wall reef pictured here at tear down last October 2012. I will allow 3 pictures of the old tank. To a 270 gallon, 6 foot by 3 foot by 2 foot acrylic tank by Midwest custom aquariums.

Here is the new construction. Once again, 270 gallon tank (6' x 3' x 2')

Old 75 gallon

Here is the new tank and sump in the truck. I drove up to northern Minnesota to pickup from manufacturer

more construction shots

here is the fish room behind the scenes

here is the new tank and sump sitting in the kitchen area

Here is my 90 gallon custom built sump with a SRO 2000 from my old system looking entirely too small. Going to need an upgrade.

Here is some major wall reconstruction with my assistant

Ready for a tank

So how do you like the tank? IMO Midwest does outstanding work on his tanks. The best acrylic work I have seen so far. A hell of a lot better than the work from last tank, which came from those overpriced guys in Veags. I just picked up my tank a few months back, still sitting the garage awaiting on me to finish the fish room Tagging along for the ride. Good Luck.

No the 300 g is 72 x 36 x 27

Great start. I am just setting up a 240 in wall. Only difference is my tank is 30 deep and external overflow.

I would have to agree. I did quite a bit of research and they were often described as having great quality. Plus it was only a 3 hour drive from my house to pickup the tank. Which was a nice little road trip.

The dimensions are exactly 72" by 36" by 24" tall

My sump is basically a 90 gallon tank laid on the side. 48" by 24" by 18" tall. Midwest customs made this as well. Overall very pleased with their work.

Nice large colonies. That will make the new tank look at least a little filled :jester:

I actually broke this tank down last fall. I sold all my livestock locally. I didn't want to have the hassle of keeping stuff going during the build. Wanted a small break too. The only thing that I kept going was my live rock in a trash can, with a heater, aerator, and powerhead.

Here are some pictures of that

Holy brittle stars batman!

Is the yellow just sponge on the live rock?

Your build is coming along nicely!

Yes, it is yellow sponge and I am considering removing a lot of it before I put the rock in the new tank. It really exploded the last several months with no light. A little would be nice but am worried that too much will die off once in the tank and hurt water qualitity.

I also have about 100 lbs of additional dry rock coming from reefrocks.net

Nice build so far.. Excited to see more pictures of the build!

Any idea of what you are going to use to light this bad boy?

Yes, in fact I have three of these new in box, ready to go. I have to buy bulbs yet. I think I am going with 250 watt 14k ushios to start with. Not sure 400 watt is worth it.

Ok, here are the "mermaid" shots that are required in the large tank forum. We need to get these out of the way before we fill with water.

somehow I ended up in there
