oh. oops! well then. i have two pistol shrimp!
i'm frustrated though, even a day after a water change my nitrates are right back to 40![]()
Just make sure the heater is not too long If you want to submerge it. I had a bunch of heaters from my 180 but I had to buy one for my 29 nano cause it had to be 12" or less to fit in the back
How is the chaeto growing?
hmm i can't really tell.. it started out as a ball of chaeto... it's still a ball of chaeto...
If that rock came from Tampa Bay there is great chance that those arent pistol shrimp, but rather mantis shrimp. most likely Neogonodactylus wennerae

great way to catch them!
i personally like the inverted coke bottle trick. give it a few days without food, they they allmost jump in the bottle. N. wennerae are not very shy, great pets.....if ya want them that is![]()
naughty have you tried the glass coke bottle yet, put some food in the bottom submerge and lean against rock, neck faceing up so when the animal enters it falls to bottom and cant crawl back out.
Your water might have nitrates in it. Check your water change bucket first.
If the chaeto does start to take off ,you can take a wad of it and place it inside your display tank around the nozzle that pumps water back to the tank . If the chaeto is grow it will definately help the ntrate reduction.
What are you feeding and how much?
What is your water change schedule?, how often and how much?
If I remember correctly , didn't you use crushed coral for your substrate. Crushed coral has been known to become nitrate factories but that is usually after it has been in the tank for a while.
