naughty's bc 14!!

hey guys!

sorry i haven't updated much, i haven't really done a lot with the tank since the last two weeks of school are taking up so much time, stupid finals...

i've got the nitrates to stay at 10 ppm fairly consistently, i haven't had time to do a bunch of water changes so i've only been doing them around weekly, but in two weeks i'll start changing it every other day and see if i can get the system to finally catch up.

other than that, everything seems to be doing pretty well, the chaeto grew like crazy, so even though the crabs ate the bunch i put in the display area, i was able to put another big chunk out from the refugium. i was a little concerned with all this green hair algae i found in chamber 2, i scraped it all off, but i'm not sure if it's bad or good to have it.

also found a couple of these things in the chaeto, not sure what it is, it's about a quarter inch big

i've tried a couple things with the gorgonian, moving it out of light didn't help, but in the light and with a lot of flow it seems to be opening up a bunch more, and since i've been spot feeding it i think it's doing better, at least i haven't noticed any new damage. still looks pretty :)

the ric's still not very happy, but seems to be alive and slowly recovering from my experiment of taking it off the plug :p

rearranged some stuff today, did a full clean and wc, it looks pretty cool, i'm thinking i'm definitely ready for my clownfish very very soon!

here's a couple more fts's and whatnot

One thing I have noticed in my tank, having the same circulation setup you have, I seem to get better flow with the Hydor mounted just below the upper overflow slots, aimed towards the surface and pointed as far towards the far corner as the mount will allow. I tried it where you have yours now and things didnt seem as happy with the pump there.

Any Progress naughty? Tank looks so lively, I think its the rock.

GF3, Do you mean keeping the pump right pointed in the same direction as naughty has it and just pushed furthe back to the back wall? or actually attached to the back wall?

hey guys!

sorry i haven't updated this thread in forever, my camera broke :(
i'm looking into getting another one, but i'm not sure if i'm quite ready to dish out that wad of cash yet....

buut as crappy as iphone pictures are, i'm sure they can relate some of my excitement about the new addition in the tank :D

i've waited about two months for my lfs to special order some nano clowns (they are AWESOME for doing that btw) annnnnd here it is

in other news, the ric died :( i poked it too much that first time and it never quite recovered. that's okay though, because i know the tank is doing well.

the anemones are getting huge

gorgs are growing, the purple one is still getting eaten though :/
i'm thinking of taking 2 of my 3 urchins to the store because i saw one take a big bite out of a healthy gorg though.

anyway, buying this clown made me want more fish, so i'm thinking eventually i'll get a dottyback/firefish and maaybe a little pygmy hawkfish instead of my goby :P

but, all that when i'm sure all is well and growing :)

Really cool, when I get my 40 breeder set up I'm so getting rock from TBS! That purple gorg is gorgeous, hope I get one as cool as that!

I have heard many horror stories about clowns and condi nems. Even though clowns will host in condis, most people that I have talked to first handedly with the condi clown setup, said that the clowns died after a month or so because of hosting in the condi. Personally, I have had a coral beauty angel die in about 4 hours because it's face barely grazed a condi.

Hi Naughty. I'm the proud owner of a new 29 gal cube and I have a couple of questions for you. When you first put water in your tank did you take out the bioballs and immediately install the inTank basket? I have one on order.
Also, how is everything going with your TBS package. Any bad hitchhikers causing trouble? I have concerns about that.

Thanks!

hey! congrats on your purchase :) you're going to love it. yes, i took out the bioballs right away, and put chemi pure and purigen with filter media in the basket. then after the cycle i added chaeto to the back chamber, it grows under a jbj nano glo light.

i absolutely love my tbs package. i'm not going to lie, the first couple of months i was fishing for whelk snails and gorilla crabs pretty often, but so far i haven't seen a whelk for months and pulled out maybe one more gorilla crab in the last couple months, so as long as you're good with taking them out once you see them in the beginning, they won't be any trouble :) wish my camera was working so i could put an updated fts up :(

Okay, well I don't think there will be a problem with watching the tank for nasties and pulling them out as I see them then. I'm a student too so I figure I can just peak in the tank and pull out stuff in between classes. :)
I would love to see new pics so I'll watch for some. ;)

still no camera, so i've been neglecting these forums but...

today was so exciting that i just can't not share it!

my black clownfish is hosting my rbta!!!! :celeb1:

well, i think half the reason is that my yellow tailed damsel chases him around, but they all seem to be getting along great :) (made sure to add the damsel last)

i'm hoping eventually my baby clowns will be a mated pair, but for now they're just chasing each other and fighting more than doing the tail shakes

alos, my purple gorg is dying but i don't think there's much i can do. i simply can't overfeed my tank enough for it to grow :(
