Neal's Barebottom SPS & ZOA System...

I've been subscribed to your thread for a while, love your philosophy of reef keeping. Keep the updates coming.

thank you... i appreciate that :)

i will have all new pics and a couple system videos etc, in the next few days... jus need to finish plumbing my relocated reactors and finish hooking up my dosing pumps, which are finally mounted in place... i have removed a couple things in my display as i mentioned previousy i think, and i really feel like i am utilizing my space much better... and everything looks much more pleasing to the eye...

i should be able to get some better pics now... i got myself a treat... its on order, and it will take me some time to learn... its probably more a beginner model, but thats about my speed, and im stoked :)

4x4" all natural tumbled stone... from home depot... "chairo" is the style/name/type or something... this is the only one i will use... the look, its ability to establish jus like live rock... things like that... very natural looking... well, as natural as my look is gonna get, lol ;)

couple new pics of my ATL limeade acro... was added as a frag from cultivated reef the first week of last may... has done pretty well... one of my favorites...

pics dont show the color well at all... very well colored peice... my best besides my cali tort i think...

and i try not to post too many pics of my zoas here since this is the sps forum, and i try to respect that... I am down to 14 sps peices, and i am considering losing a few more and getting some new frags of some i find nicer than the ones i have and have grown...

however, i thought i would post a pic of my rastas (opening up) here for the sps freaks who love zoas too... personally i think they are both the best two kinds of corals and compliment each other well in color, shape and jus overall contrast in physical makeup...

i love my rastas, there are over 200 polyps... i have grown them from about 4 polyps when i got them last june... about 10 months ago...

Is your cali blue a slow grower?

OH YES...

here is a pic from about 6 weeks into my care... i got it at the end of march of last year... so its been about 53 weeks... this was from about 47 weeks ago... its doubled in height approximately, and bulked up quite a bit... it has had two growth set backs from water quality issues, so im sure i lost some growth during those times... but yes, absolutely a slow grower...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/?action=view&current=00034.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/System%202011/00034.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

so im kinda bored, lol, and since i removed some of my sps tonite, i figured i would make a quick stocklist... i also put a couple more zoas, and even the miami hurricane chalice on larger 6x6" tiles...

i now have only 9 sps mounted on my columns... all acros...

ora cali blue tort
tyree pink lemonade
atl limeade
ora red planet
ora pearlberry
green slimer
purple lokani
icefire echinata
strawberry shortcake

i also have a couple nice ora joe the coral and green highlighter small colonies, on my frag rack, i fragged off the larger colonies i had previously grown out... these will be my first "2nd generation" peices sorta speak, that i will grow...

the following are my zoas and paly's... the first group are all growing and doing very well, regardless of number of polyps, whether there is only 1, or over 250...

rastas
red hornets
purple hornets
orange bam bams
candy apple reds
my clementines
purple people eaters
red people eaters
rose nebulas
tubbs blues
sunny d's
captain america

the following are still coloring and/or shaping up, and coming along, but in my opinion, they jus are not to their potential...

xmen
pink elephants
darth mauls
whammin watermelons

and i also have the two chalices... miami hurricane and a tyree red watermelon...

with my downsized yet again sps collection, i now have 6 free spots amongst my 33 designated platforms... they will be used for a couple more zoas, couple more chalices, and a couple favias as i would like to give them a shot too...

im pretty excited to have some more room... i went from over 30 sps peices, to less than 10, and im actually quite pleased about that decision... i think the ones i chose to keep, are quite nice, and starting over with a few, will allow them to grow out nice again i think... going with more zoas and a couple more encrusting lps is gonna take a little time to fill out, but its gonna look real good i think, and with good balance...

also, now with less sps, i am gonna drop my daily dosing of two part to about 5 mLs for alk, and test daily, and pin point my usage after a couple more weeks before i hook up my dosers... i wana know how much im using when things settle down, before i start an automated dosing system...

a couple sps pics...

my videos and pics are now done with an Iphone4, including the one jus above... i returned the camera i had gotten cuz i needed the new phone more... all get a nice camera soon enough im sure... but for now, this will do...

limeade...
