Neal's Zoa/Paly Pics...

Love your collection and your ieas with the tiles. Gives me a lot of idea.

I lost most of Zoas that were growing like crazey a couple years ago. It was like in 3 days they went downholl and I never fould out what did it.

I started early this month with a frag and really hope they take off again. I'm using a combination of Royal Blues LED's and 8 X 54 watts of T-5's. 5 Blue Plus, GE 6,500K and two Purple Plus. Eventualy I want to ge with all LED's but if things start working again I want a lot more differenf varieties of zoa's

I noticed in your pictures there do nopt seem to be any fish. Are your tanks fish free? Or is this just a fraging tank and you have another tank with fish?
 
This is not a frag tank... Please understand i care for my corals perhaps in a different manner, or at least in how i present them, and the tank is far too shallow as my interests and ideas have evolved, but for the footprint, and space/spread, it was the best bang for my buck as my funds were very limited... But i do like the shallow and spread as opposed to the thin and tall look... Like the standard 75 gallon i had until recently as my display...

And i do in fact have quite a bit of life in my tank... An orchid pseudo, yellow tail damsel, sixline and at the moment 2 purple tangs, until one is removed and donated to a good friend of mine who has the last display 75 previously mentioned... Also 4 blue porcelian crabs, 2 fire shrimp, 14 turbo snails, and a really nice fancy brittle star with some awesome pattern pink and diamond type pattern with a darker color in between the two... Its too bad i cant get a great close up of it, i love it :)
 
Yes I do agreee shallow tanks are definatly better for growing out corals. I myself have a 120 gallon main display tank. However I also have 3 fraging tanks which are either 30 or 40 gallon breeder tanks. 36" X 18" Base 12" tall and 15" tall. With this I do not have to worry about getting the light through 20+ inches of water for the corals.

You going to donate a purple Tang. Wow that is one of the more expensive of the Tangs around here at our LFS. I do not remember ever seeing them available under $200 while the yellows sall for around $30.00.

I will say again I like your tile columns idea and it has given me some interesting ideas to experiment with. So let me ask you what you use to glue the tiles together in the tank. I was opting for the idea of drilling them and inserting fiberglass rods through them to stabilize the stack.
 
wow, those are some impressive growth... haven't seen them grow like that in pic.. thanks for documenting and showing us..

a few of the other zoas/palys i have growing are...

red people eaters - about 15+ polyps, and really starting to look good imo...

candy apple reds - nearly 200 polyps, grow like crazy at this point...

xmen - 4 polyps acquired about a month ago, starting to settle in and become accustomed to my system and light/flow... still a little pale imo, but looking good so far...

purple people eaters - 4 polyps which are actually moving along the plug off of the glue, but when relaxed, look REALLY good i think :) got them in early october as one polyp...

sunny D's - got last summer as 1 polyp, now have about 16, a very finicky one for me for some reason, and hard for me to keep happy, relaxed and open, but definately growing... weird... too much flow i feel, moved them back to lower flow today, so we will see...

i also have some radioactive dragon eyes i got from someone i gave a frag to, (same frag/small colony) i sold the colony off a while back, but i am gonna grow another colony for myself cuz i miss them... not the "fanciest" or most sought after/uncommon zoa, but they have always really glowed for me and its imo, one of the nicer green zoas... its will take them sometime, but hopefully i will return them to their former glory, lol...

i might be missing a couple...

The thing I hate about taking pictures under blue lights is that the colors never show up as they do in to the naked eye. I went to LED Royal Blue for a pre dawn opst dusk effect on my tanks and the color is breath taking as the corals floresce and it almost looks like commic book that came to life. But every time I take a picture the only thing that shows up is the blues. I realy wonder how some people get those fantastic colrs in there photos under Blue or Atinic lighting.

Man everytime I check your updates you make me want to go barebottom. I bet once you get the calcium reactor everything is going to boom
