Need a Algae I.D.

I have this strange algae growing all over my tank. It seems to grow thicker on the rocks under my glass center brace. Anyone know how to get rid of it. I do have tangs and lots of snails and use RODI. Have for yrs. My herbivores don't seem to like this stuff.

Need some advice on what to do to get rid of it.

Try searching Reef Central (be sure to change the timeframe to any date) and google.com. I have the same stuff in my tank. It grows very slowly for me. Is yours growing rapidly? Do you test your nitrates and phosphates?

Mine is growing pretty fast. And it seems to grow thicker on the rock under the center brace. Yes I have tested and come up with 0 readings for both. I used the Sailfert tests. Wonder if a se hare might take care of it? I'll do that search.

I think that is too coarse for a Sea Hare. The only thing my Aplysia dactylomenia (sp?) ate was nori. He subsequently suffered a horrible death on a pump intake. :(

Oh that's not good news to hear. I got one in last Friday and not sure why but it died, it didn't live long enough for me to see if it would eat it or not. I'm suppose to get another the end of the week. I'll post if it eats any of the stuff. Provided this one lives long enough. I tried the search, but RC was so busy at the time didn't get any information. I guess the main thing is wanting to find out what will eat it. Or to make it go away!

KmK2307,

Just curious, is your tank barebottomed or sand bed? Also are you running a refug? My tank is BB and have a refug. I'm debating on whether to lose the refug. I had it on reverse daylight from my tank. And just up the lighting period where it on with the tank and past the lighting period of my tank. Not sure if it's going to help. But will see.

znut Reefer,

Sacoglossans aren't very robust critters. Slow acclimation in terms of temperature and water chemistry, stable (and apropriate) water temperature and chemistry, and lots of available food are important. Is this the species you got? http://www.seaslugforum.net/factsheet.cfm?base=aplydact

I have two tanks. Both have a ~4 in sandbed. On my 45 gallon tank the sandbed is of all coarse sand and I have a protein skimmer but I do not have a 'fuge. I have phosphate problems in this tank. On my 75 tank, the sandbed is a mix of fine southdown sand and coarse sand. I do not have a protein skimmer but I grow lots of macroalgae in my display tank and I have a 20L 'fuge full of chaetomorpha and some Caulerpa racemosa. I wouldn't remove the 'fuge. The light on my fuge is 24/7. I believe I have read that Turbo snails will eat gelidopsis.

GL & HTH,
Kevin

Okay I'll light my refug 24/7 and see how that goes. And yes thats the one I had and will try to get again Friday. I bought some nori to have when it ran out of algae. And I'll acclimate this one alot slower and see how it goes. Know any reasonable places to get the turbos from? I just bought 60 trocus, but they don't have these.
