Like the post says ... I have a 75g with two 250 halides and the recent temperatures are making my tank temp go as high as 86 degrees .... If anyone has one they would like to sell plz send me a pm

My tank stays between 86 and 88 degrees. I can't see anything wrong with my tank. someone tell me if I should be worried.

88 is hot Keaton. Perhaps your critters have acclimated now to that high temperature and therefore aren't showing any ill effects, but I can't help but think that they're being stressed. After all, tropical water temps can get pretty warm as well. But they'd be much better off in the 80 - 82 degree range. I keep my tanks at 80, and this weekend the pump that pushes water through my chiller failed. They were at 88 for about 10 hours or so, and I lost two fish and one coral. I'm lucky it wasn't worse. The least you should do is have a fan in your hood, and a fan blowing air across your sump. That should be enough to lower the temp a few degrees.

I have a 75 with 2 250 watt MH & 2 110 watt VHO (a retrofit in a canopy about 8 inches above water) and all I use to keep my tank around 80 degrees is a fan blowing from the top of the canopy (drilled a hole in the top and have it mounted inside the canopy) down onto the aquarium. Now I do lose about 2 gallons a day but its much cheaper than a chiller. I have a 1/4 HP drop in chiller (no pump required) that I bought for $500 that was too noisy (my tank is next to the TV) that I would let go for what I paid. Otherwise I'm going to use it out in my fish room once it is built (more on that later)

The first thing to do is to check the accuracy of whatever is giving you those numbers.

I use 2 coralife digital thermometers. Rite now (Lights off) one reads 85.1 and the other reads 86.4 I have two fans blowing over the water and no sump. Cabin3tGuy- sorry if i am jacking your thread.

My tank stays in the 77-79 range. I have 250 MH, a fan in the canopy, one blowing over the surface of the water in the display tank and one blowing over the sump. I also have a room size ac in the tank room, since our upstairs central unit is out. Sanford is right, there is lots of evaporation, but the fans and room size ac are much cheaper than the chiller.
