Need a chiller with LED's?

Pre planing my 300 gallon system. I know that LED light setup produces practicly no heat so I dont see a reason for having a chiller since the main factor of heat is eliminated. Am I wrong? The pumps would be VorTech, so there would be minimal heat there as well. I plan on keeping the tank in the mid 80's temp wise. If I do need a chiller what size should i get? I was thinking 1/2 HP?

My solaris has added zero zip nada heat to my 180. However, if your room temp is around 80 I can see the heat from the fans raising the temp in a small room a few degrees.

With LED Lights and Vortech Pumps, I think that your biggest heat contributors may be the skimmer and the return pump. These don't usually add too much heat, even when they are internal (at least compared to the heat from an MH light source).

I guess a lot of it will depend on the ambient temperature in the room your tank is located.

I know that most people with tanks as large as 300 gallons go all the way and purchase a chiller just in case (i.e. house air-conditioning failure, etc).

i have a 48in solaris and i've had my a/c die on me (kinda) it was 80 degrees in the room and 81 in my tank (but thats what i usually keep it). i did add a fan over my sump after the second day though. its a 100 gallon system.

The skimmer I think im going to use is going to be the Deltec External Protein Skimmer AP1003

I really doubt i'll need a chiller but like you said. might as well go all the way, just in case. So i wont get a big chiller, maybe something like the Deltec Eco-Cooler EC420-2 24 Volt? Or the Deltec Eco-Cooler EC420-4 24 Volt but thats a big price difference. Its more expensive then refrigerant chillers but cheaper to run electricity wise.

Sounds like whats been going on in my tank. My A/C went out and had to have it fixed 5 times in two weeks, finally had the whole unit replaced today. Ahhh, cold air is great..... My tank temp went up to 90 degrees O_o. Obviously I dont have a chiller on it now. And it's an 80 gallon system
