Need a little anemone help

ok so i was told this behavior is normal but thought i would double check because im not too sure if i believe it is. My anemone, told by the LFS that it was a LTA but im still yet to find one online with only purple tips like mine has, well some of the tentacles have been shrinking like in the picture. other times they fully blow up like the rest. is this normal? my tank parameters are all checking out and although the tank is only a few months old everything in it came from an established tank. heres some pics any input on the shrinking and type of anemone would be appreciated.

It is an bta.
Partially deflated tentacles usually mean the nem is damaged. If The rest of the nem is deflated then it might be just acclimating to the tank if it's recently added. If it keeps deflating then you have a problem with either the tank or the anemone.

Im not an expert on ID's, but here is some info, LTA are sand dewlers and like urs seems, to get a positive ID for an LTA you should look on the other side of the oral disk (dont remember the name) anyway on the other side of the tentacles lets call it the upper part of the pedal, you should see like dots if its an LTA...

Regarding the issues, what does params in check mean? lets see some numbers? and an anemone should no be introduced in a new tank the tank should be at least 6 months old, but since everything came from an established tank it will stay stable... it can happen that some tentacles deinflate and other stay inflated,
another important thing is light! how much light do u have?

regards

The shrunk tentacles looked damaged to me as you can see tentacles are shorter than the rest. Don't worry about it, it will heal giving the right conditions.

BTA really? i was thinking LTA because like the other guy said he pretty much stuck his foot up against the rock and the sand. interesting though i will have to look into that. its just weird cause i cant find any anemones really with only purple tips. theres all purple or a condy but thats all ive found. also because i thought the bubble tips are supposed to puff up like bubbles and mine just seems to shrink. everything looks fine except those few shrunken ones which even those inflate and look normal sometimes too. tentacles are all responsive and he eats fine when i target feed him some myosis shrimp. I have LED lighting if that helps

is it possible that my hermits damages those lower tentacles? i mean it seems to be doing good other than those lower guys. thanks for all the input

If it's an LTA, the foot would've been in the sand. If you lift up that rock, I bet the anemone will come with it because its food is on the rock. Some BTA have pink/purple tip.

do you think you could explain to me a little more why you think its a condy? any reason being other than just the purple tips? I just thought the condy's had pure white tentacles and mine has like a tan?

+1 on the Condy. They usually do have white tentacles in the LFS but they are normally tan just like in your picture. I have one and it looks almost identical to your pict.

Oh, and by the way, their natural predator is red-legged hermits. I'm not convinced it's limited to only the red-legged ones though. Mine did the same thing as yours is doing... some tentacles shriveled up (occasionally I'd find them severed). I removed ALL hermits from the tank and it stopped.

well that would explain it then- i have red legged hermits. i thought it was possibly my cleaner skunk too because he annoys it as well, trying to steal its food. is it possible for this type of nem to host ocellaris clownfish? also if you got rid of all your hermits, what do you have as a CUC now?

It is "possible" but unlikely for this nemmie to host clowns. Mine hosts 2 cleaner shrimp. Some have reported hosting, mine does not.

As far as my CUC I have 5 peppermint shrimp, 2 skunk shrimp, sally lightfoot crab, emerald crabs, and a host of the things that only come out at night worms and arthropods ... stuff like that. Just no hermits.

Sebae aka Heteractis crispa have rather long, slender and numerous tentacles that taper toward their apex, and each of these tentacles bears a more or less prominent pink tip. Their "stalks" are generally grayish in color, with no evidence of verrucae (striations).

Condylactis gigantea, the Giant Anemone. Largest species in the range (6-12 inches in diameter when extended). White body and tentacles. The latter bear enlarged tips typically of a contrasting color, though they may be white.

I want to say WestChesterReef's photos ARE a Crispa (Sebae). The difference between being the number of tentacles on the disk, packed really tight not like a Condy where there are many tentacles but there's some room between. Plus the tentacles in WestChesterReef's pict come to a point/peak where yours look more rounded/blunt.
