Ok guys...I finally got the 90 gallon all togeather except plumbing for the sump. I am no plumber !!!! so now I need someone to volunteer to lead me through this. I have a lot of questions about it and whoever volunteers needs to remember that I am a sweet little old lady that is as confused as a ditch mouse....some specifics on the set up ...90 gallon reef ready with a sump made by Barrett that has a refugium across the back , mag 12 pump and it will have an in sump protien skimmer.
I am off Thursday and Friday and was hoping to be able to know enough to tackle the chore.
How about it anybody just dying to help me out ??
PM me for a phone number so we can talk...oh yeah I am not home tomorrow night or Tuesday night...until late.

Well Del ..so far I have no offers so we may need to just help each other !!! I do have a plan...I have been sketching and planning and I may just have it figured out . I will let you know if it all works out...cross your fingers for me...lol

I'm getting ready to plumb a customers 90gal. I'll probably be finished around Friday. You're more 'n welcome to look at it for any ideas.

I can plumb yours as well, if you like. I wouldn't charge you but you would ,of course, have to pay for the parts used. The one thing is that you would have to bring it to the shop.

yep I got that part figured out ...it is more of a where to put the ball valves and IS THIS MAG 12 TOO MUCH PUMP???? The overflow is rated at 600 gallons so what I have figured is 2 elbows to run the pipes back up to the tank from the pump ...knowing elbows will somewhat diminish the flow , will it be enough or will I have a hard time getting the flow right ?
On the " to the sump " part, I think I have that figured out too . I have it sketched out and I think the best thing to do is just try what i have planned and see if it works. If someone could just tell me for absolute sure where the ball valves need to be placed I think I would have it all figured out . I know I want to use some sort of quick disconnect fixture for cleaning purposes. In my mind I think they need to be closest to the tank but not at the top . Forgive my lack of technical terms but like I said ...I am no plumber. I have been waiting for 8 months to actually get this tank running and researching all the while . I would hate to have it turn into a nightmare at this point.

Oh Dave...you will see me Wednesday afternoon or early Thursday to check out what you are doing to the customers tank...I will be checking to see if I need to bring the tank in or if I can just get the parts and do it myself. Now can you clear up the pump question...is the mag 12 too much pump???

Hard to say if it'll be too much. It will depend on the plumbing layout. As a Mag12 is not pressure rated it will suffer more from any restrictions placed on it vs. a pressure rated pump of similar output. The Mag came with a pump flow chart.

If you want to place ball valve and union on the pump for serviceability they should right up on the pump. It will make it easier to remove and the water loss will be minimal. I would use tru-union ball valves instead of a separate ball valve with a separate union as the tru-union will take up less space.

I bought this used pump a long time ago with no paperwork. I did go online and look it up and the best info I could find was confusing to say the least.
when you say I would need to bring in the tank for you to do the plumbing, do you mean stand and all or just tank and sump?

I will need it all. I'll plumb it, label it ( so you can put it back together), and take it apart. It might be best to view the one I'm getting ready to do to see if it's what you want. I'm going to start making a list of PVC parts today and the finished product should be viewable Saturday morning.

Dave-

Can you post pictures for the "OKIES" that need plumbing help on an 80 (that originally came from Kermits)?

Please,

Christy
