Need a quick answer about Seio's

I am gonna order either the 1500 or the 2600 tonight. It will be for my 380g tank that is 8' in length and 36" in height. This will be primarily a fish only tank. I might put a few low light corals in later. My question is, which one would be better? I am leaning towards the 1500 because I am afraid the 2600 might be too much flow and stress the fish. What do you guys think?

Definitely go with the 2600s the fish will be fine. I've got 2 Seio 1500s and a Tunze 6060 on a 7 ft 220 plus the return and a 1200pgh closed loop. Still don't think I have enough flow. If you get them and think they're too much I'll trade my 1500s for them :D

If I had a choice, I would never order the smaller one. The flowwill not be too much,and even if it were, all you would need to do is have a control valve to slow it down. I would hate to see you disapointed with something you could not turn up for more flow if you needed more.

If the 1500 means 1500 gallons per hour, that's nowhere near enough flow for a 380. The 2600 may even not be enough.
It's just about impossible to have too much water flow. I set up a customer's 125 gallon tank with a Mag 1200 on one side and a Mag 1800 on the other. I thought it might be too much flow, but it was what the fish needed. However, I personally know of a 450-gallon tank which has had many mortalities, most likely due to a poor flow rate. Without a lot of flow, you can have severe losses in a large tank. I think it's because salt water is so dense compared to fresh water.

I know my 120 has really come to life since I added my tunze 6100. I am not considering a larger pump for my sump. (currently now have a viaaqua 3200, but need a much bigger one) The corals are open larger and everything just looks more alive and healthy. I was using a swcd, and two maxijets 1200s, and that was nothing compaired to what I have now :)

I'll go for the 2600 then. Sounds like it is the better way to go. I agree with everyone, I think good flow is key to a healthy tank.

Sure is, good flow is second only to lighting IMO. It really depends on the livestock you are interested in keeping. If you are keeping SPS then more flow 40 to 50 X of alternating and chaotic flow times the tank volume per hour is not a ridiculous number. If you want a mix tank a bit less and softies not as much around 10 to 15 should be fine. But make sure you get the right pump for the job. I know what I would have on a 380 but you know me, Im crazy about flow and SPS so a wavebox and 2 6200 Streams on a multi controller would be must for my tank. Remember it's not just flow, it's random chaotic flow as well which makes all the difference in the world in the long run.

Oh to answer your question a 2600 will not be enough for an SPS dominant system in the long run or a primary stocked fish tank IMO but for a mix or softie zone should be fine with some aditional flow added in the near future.

Either way I can't wait to see some pics of this thing set up so hurry up :)

Perhaps Tunze would like to compensate CVRC for all this endorsement they are getting from us

<b>
When you have a superior product endorsements are free and they know that. Do a search for TUNZE on RC and see how many posts are returned. It's not endorsement it's experience with a successful product and the desire to help others not make the same mistakes as some of us have nothing more. You simply can not understand unless you see the results for yourself. You will find the same advice all over RC especially in the SPS forums.

BTW: TUNZE is an RC sponsor they make it possible for all of us to be here so there is the compensation.

I still remember the days when Ron was skeptical, said no way they were worth the money. Then he came over to my house. The rest as they say is history. :D

However, I was the same way. Thought anyone would have to be nuts to spend that kind of money on a "powerhead". Then I visited Matt's house.

Sounds good to me :D
Or Andy from Icecap could give us Vortecs with the beta controller.Since we're dreaming I'd take either one
