One of my pumps on my ASM G5 skimmer has frozen up. No wonder the skimmer has not work worth a crap.

I like the pumps that come with the Octopus skimmer but don't know the name brand to order one. Anyone?

Or is there a better pump? Skimmer worked great for the 1st two years but the last 6 months it has not done hardly anything, which could be do to the bad pump.

I think the octo pumps are really Ocean Runner ones but a GenX needlewheel would also work good.

Lonnie,

I had the same pump and it froze up also but I figured out and found others had the same problem that is was actually the impellor the base for some reaon had swelled up and was too big to spin in the hole it fits down in.

I got a new impellor and it works perfect not. I believe I got it from Mark. Just an option was a lot cheaper than a whole new pump.

Hey That worked... I just took the impeller out of the other one and put in the one that was froze and it worked fine.. But I think that one is getting bad too Took me a while to get it to start.

Yeh you will be amazed when you compare a new one to the old one I could see how it had swelled up.

I don't know either but mine ran over 3 years all the time with routine (at least once a year unless it would not restart) cleaning :)

The only thing I could figure is harsh calcium environment and friction/heat caused it because mine looked like it had been rubbing there were abraision marks on the impellor.

I have also read that modding the impeller could cause the pump to work harder, and over heat the pump. So the new ones will not be modded and see how that works.. Skimmer didn't work right since I did the mod anyway. So hopefully it will work like it did a year ago.
