Need a return pump

Does anyone have a Mag 12 they're willing to sell or a similar powered external pump?

I have a Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC that I could hook up however I am assuming that I would need to throttle it back so far that it would just be a waste of power and pump life. Opinions?

I am willing to trade the Little Giant for a different pump.

I've also got this 1/15hp Dolphin pump that runs at 1425/1725 rpm. I don't really know how to use this to figure out what pump it is or what it's flow is but I'm pretty sure I could empty an in ground pool with is in a few hours.

Here's a picture of the Little Giant.

Throttling these pumps back will actually reduce current draw and extend pump life in almost all cases, you might find it's more efficient than swapping to a smaller pump that's flat out. These two pumps likely have better impeller designs at any rate and are definitely closer to being an industrial product than a hobby product. Danner Mag drive pumps look like the impellers were designed by a caveman.

That Little Giant is a 1/10hp pump, it's rated at 1325 gph at 1' of head. It's not really THAT much more powerful than a Mag 12. Arguably the only disadvantage it has compared to the Mag 12 is that you can't run it submerged.

The Dolphin looks like an Amp Master 2100 which are now discontinued. 11.5 feet max head, 2100 gph. It's going to pull about the same wattage as the Little Giant but produce more flow at less head. The other main difference between them is that the Dolphin is direct drive (which means you have a seal to maintain) vs the Little Giant being mag drive.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably run the Little Giant, and trade or sell the Dolphin to get a second Little Giant to have on hand as a backup.

Thanks Nietzsche. That's great information to hear. After I posted this I was starting to think that I should just use the Little Giant and keep the extra flow ability to supply other modules of the system in the future. I'll start planning the upgrade around this pump.

I still have the Dolphin if anyone is interested and will let it go cheap. It's not doing any good at my house.
