In our quarantine tank we have a leather coral, a fairy wrasse and 3 royal grammas. Are we able to have coral AND fish in a quarantine together? The fish looked fine when we put them in yesterday but now they are laboring a lot. Also, one of the gramma's tails is frayed. Is this a sign of disease?

The leather can go straight into your main tank unless there is something wrong with it.
Test your water and make sure levels are ok, otherwise a WC is needed.
what type of filtration do you have , how big is your QT

QT is too small...figured that out already.
Checked all levels and ammonia was SLIGHTLY elevated so we did a water change.
Could the leather be bothering the fish in close quarters like that?

Could you describe whats wrong with the leather and fish again in more detail? What type of filtration does it have?

Nothing is wrong with the leather. The fairy wrasse has labored breathing and looks very stressed. Two of the royal grammas are hiding under rocks and the third is near the top of the water looking stressed. His tail looks frayed. Besides the tank being overcrowded, are we doing something wrong? Should we take the fairy wrasse out and put him in his own quarantine tank?

Here is what we've done and plan to do over next 24 hours.

Done so far,

1.)20% water change.
2.) Added another pile of live rock for filtration and the Wrasse to hide in.

Pending,

1.) We setup a second 10GL quarantine tank. Just have to wait for the RO water to be ready. We're planning on putting the Wrasse by himself in this tank with some more live rock. Unfortunately we have no more filters in the sump so the live rock will have to provide basic filtration with the hang-on filter while he recovers.

Do your tests and if levels fine then besure you have proper flow so water is well oxyegenated ( i cant spell ) and a few rocks would help ease stress also low light first day or two.If you can then quarantine all new live stock . Ick eggs can be small. Also adding to much stock in main tank . I not sure of your tank size tho. But it also helps whene theres a problem and you know the causeing fish.Gl :)

RE: Flow - added a small powerhead into the QT near the surface to increase the flow a bit and increase the surface agitation.

About 3 hours before we added the fish. We filled it with water from the main system and added live rock from the refugium.

If you treat the "fish" with copper you CANNOT put the live rock back in the fuge or in the main tank again.
Do not treat the leather with copper, you will kill it!

To get more oxygen in the water, add an air pump with air stone this should get you by when your in a pinch.

Get some PVC bushings, elbows etc. for the fish to hide in, and put the LR back in the tank.

It would really help everybody help you with your system if you told us why the fish were in quarantine... It seems to me like you are getting lots of good advice which could be totally useless depending on your specific situation....

So, come on.... what are we dealing with here???? ich? fin rot? parasites??? contamination???

Nobody's gonna laugh at you and call you names... You're obviously trying everything in your power to help the fish so give us some more info so people can help you out.

I think he is qt his fish before intorducing them to the main tank. This is something we ALL should be doing btw! Goodjob, Might be the ammonia level, I would chemically eliminateit, or do alot more water changes, and big ones!

Maybe I'm missing something but I see nothing in the posters posts to indicate this. All I saw was this:
Long story. Everything is small though.
Assuming in this situation could lead to death of all the animals, corals and liverock.

We quarantine everything for a month before they go into the live tank, they all looked very good at the LFS and we have never had problems with fish from them before.

The second 10G quarantine is almost ready. We're just deciding on what to move into it. I'm thinking one QT dedicated for the coral and the other for the fish.

RE: Live Rock, if we have to do any aggressive treatments the rock will go in the garbage, it's just small pieces of rubble.
