Hi everyone,

I was thinking about setting up a 29g FOWLR tank and wanted to get some advice.
My proposed setup would look like this:
29g AGA
10g sump
skimmer (not sure brand yet)
1-2 maxijet 900s
not sure on lighting yet
40~ lbs. live rock
40lbs. sand
heater (not sure brand yet)

with that setup, would this livestock list work?
flame angel
tomato clown
arch eye or longnose hawkfish
maybe goby/shrimp pair

any suggestions on a cleanup crew?

i already have the 10g sitting around to use for the sump, as well as an aquaclear 70 HOB filter that i don't know if i will use. everything else i'll have to buy, so i can allow for changes in the rest of the stuff. this would be my first saltwater tank, so i'm open to advice. thanks.

IMO for a FOWLR the aqauclear 70 Is sufficient enough, I would just buy a decent HOB skimmer and you'll be fine. I wouldnt waist the time and money setting up the sump. I had a 10G sump all hard plumbed and I actually just converted back to an HOB filter. It Just got to noise and more of a pain.

well my main reason for the sump was to keep alot of the equipment out of sight. I thought about a HOB skimmer, but they all seem so tall, i dont want anything sticking up taller than the light. I also wanted to keep the heater out of the main tank.

If you're up to the extra effort for sump, I say go for it.
There are ways of making them quiet, Durso...
I agree, that size tank keep as much out of display as possible.
My cleanup is a variety of snails, mainly Astrea and ceriths.

Yeah.
Flames may pick at corals, but you're going fowler.
Hawks I've heard can be a little mean, but OK w/ those fish.
Tomatos a little mean also.
small goby/shrimp.
I would call a 29 fairly stocked w/ this.
