Need advice on Alk burn.

I am new to SPS and just added my first corals about a month ago. Over the last month my Tricolor Acropora began to get white tips and develop a little bit of tissue recession on a few of the tips as well. After doing some research I am pretty confidant that it is Alk burn and that my Alk (which was 10.5) was too high for my tank while carbon dosing. I am bringing the Alk down to the 7.5-8 range and am about half way there.

I read several times that if the coral does not heal itself, then the best thing to do is cut off the parts with tissue recession. My question is this...how do I know when it is time to cut the coral? Where do I cut it (how much do I cut off)? I have some coral cutters but do not really know what I am doing. Any advice would help. Thanks.

I don't think I would trim that coral. The burn is not bad and it will eventually grow over it. Minimally, I would suggest to monitor it for a few weeks before any surgery.

Agreed, leave it alone. You didn't pick a very beginniner-friendly Acro species, so if it does well for you then you'll be laughing! :D

Thank you all for the advice. I will leave it alone and post an update in a few weeks or sooner if anything changes. Thanks again.
