Hi guys and gals, Im thinking about starting a 300gallon tank build but need some advise first. I currently have the opportunity to purchase a used 300 gallon/reef ready/ closed loop drilled petco fish tank for get this $400 bucks which I consider a pretty good deal. To much so to pass up. I was just wondering if anyone has every done a reef setup with one of these tanks. The tank is glass on the 5 main viewable sides and the back of the tank is a black uerathane matherial that has one center overflow and 5 holes drilled in it for a cloosed loop system, then the bottom is the same black urethane material and the top is rimless. The tank is shaped like a half hexagon and the dimesions are 93.75" long x 38" wide x 19.75" tall. I have some crappy pict's of the tank below. I have some cool ideas for a reef tank with this aqaurium, like pond foaming the back and a couple magrooves growing out of the tank, etc . la la la day dreaming... anyhow. I think the tank has potential, just want to get some ideas from you experts on here about this one. to see if its a good deal and worth the work to get it setup, and if these tanks are built to last. I would amagine so since it was built for petco, but anywho just looking for your opions, success stories or not on this type of setup.

copper treatment problem

copper treatment problem

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to use the tank if it had ever had copper treatment in it. A good cleaning would be able to clean anything out that has ever been used. The glass portion of the tank will not obsorb anything and I cant see why the back and bottom material would either.
I say buy the tank and reef it up!!!!!!!!!!!

i think there is a post on here about using bleach to clean out the pits and pores of glass in tanks that previously used copper in them. just fyi.

thats an awsome looking 300 gallon it would make a great in wall tank as well!

Thanks for the info bro, thanks you all. I think I will buy the tank, but keep your advice and ideas coming on the tank. Im buying the tank this afternoon, so I'll check back later to see if anyone opposes the tank or any other suggestions. Thanks everyone again. Josh

Ok , well I went and checked the tank out and I bought it. Its huge, lol. I had a 270 tall short acylic reef tank but I sold it. Some of you may remeber it, but this is my next step up 30 gallons more than my last tank, longer and wider tank to play with. I'll post picts tummorow of the tank. Boy im excited. lol :bum:

just use ph down or vinegar with a algae scraper blade to clean and remove all that calcium buildup on glass rim etc...

If it doesnt leak i would go for it. The double 45 angle would make a beautiful reef display. I would love to have it!
