Need advice on flow for 72g bowfront

I am planning a 72g Bow LPS and Softy setup without sump. Any suggetions for the flow? What powerheads/pumps should i use and where to place them? I am mainly considering maxijets. There won't be any return flow due to not having sump.

Have you considered seios? Yes they're more expensive, but offer more flow over a wider area and uses less wattage.

For example:
MJ1200 - 295gph , 20W
SEIO M620 - 620gph, 8W

If you're good at DIY projects, you could also try modding a maxijet into a stream style powerhead.

If i do mods, how many do i need for 72BF? If i go with SEIO M620 how many do i need?

How reliable SEIO's are? Can they be used on the wavemaker?

I was thinking about doing simple MJ mod where you cutoff the output nozzle and put them on the wavemaker so that it will give different direction flow everytime they turn on and off

Will two SEIO M620 on two back corners pointing towards front center of the tank do the trick for the flow? Then i will have AquaClear HOB 110 in the back center for additional flow. What do you think?

If i go with MJ1200, how many do you think i will need?

If i get three MJ1200 and do mod by cutting output nozzle and put them on the wavemaker so that it can provide different flow with each on and off, will that be better then using two SEIO620?

If i go with three MJ,s i can have two on each back end and one in the center next to HOB AquaClear. Will that be better then using just two SEIO 620?

For a 72g tank, you would be good with 2 MJ900's pushing Octura 1435 props. A MJ1200 spinning the larger 3004 Dumas (1.75") prop would be a bit much for that tank even if it's SPS dominated.

It also depends a lot on what you keep in your tank too.

Here are the props in terms of flow (from least to most) in my experience.

1.25" Dumas (good for mixed or LPS and softies tanks 55g and under)

1.25" Hobbico Nitro Hammer (good for mixed or LPS and softies tanks 75g and under)

1.38" Octura 1435 (good for mixed and SPS dominated tanks 90g and under. Might need some creative mounting for LPS and softies dominated tanks though)

1.75" 3004 Dumas (This is the king of flow IMO/IME. Excellent for larger SPS dominated tanks > 90g)

This is just a general guideline though as the flow requirements also depends a lot on specific tanks (custom dimension, substrate type, and whatnot)

Seios cannot be run on a wavemaker, but Taam has announced a controller for them that should be out soon. Check out the lighting forum.

If I were going to run Seios I'd go with 2 620's for LPS like bubbles, frogspawn, torches and hammers. Otherwise I'd go with 2 820's.

Did seio's change their design? HOw reliable are they?
