Need advice on purchasing a new camera

I currently have an Olympus Stylus, I'm not sure what number but it is a few years old. I'm looking for a new point and shoot camera, something small and stylish but that takes decent pictures. My Stylus is good once in awhile, but there are a lot of shots that end up blurry. Anyway, it's only a 3.2 megapixel or something like that and I'm looking to get a camera that is at least 4.0. I don't need any fancy add-ons or lenses. I'm looking for something in the $300 - $500 range. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

my friend just got a Canon Powershot A640 it's a nice camera.

Unlike the old days of film, you can go to a camera store, rig the camera with what lens you like, and proceed to take [and view] a number of pictures under a number of different conditions. I don't think there's any good substitute for trying.

I'm not sure if amount of mp should be a deciding factor. I am also looking to get a new p&s cam for traveling purposes and really thinking of buying this cam. My reasons are not based on the megapixels but rather on the optics. It has some decent reviews and price seem to be just right as well.

I highly reccomend taking a trip to the store and getting your hands on a few different cameras and see what feels good for you. These days megapixels have equalized go for optical zoom in a tie.
