I read some threads on ich and copper & hyposalinity treatments, but have questions still.
I had a royal gramma that a friend of my quarantined for me for about a month and during that particular time did not show any signs of ich. The fish was not treated with hyposalinity nor copper as a preventative approach.
After I had introduced the fish to my 24 gallon aquarium, my 2 occelaris clowns pestered it. A day later, it had a few spots which I believe it was ich. Before I was able to take him out and set up a medicine tank the following day, my vortech pump sucked him up and killed him. (lesson learned, use the foam guards). To describe what happened is that my pump comes out of sleep mode at 6:30 am and I went downstairs to feed the fish at 6:45 am. I found the royal gramma suctioned to the pump. He was fine the night before, but in the morning I found him dead stuck halfway into the pump.
My question is that now my clowns that were exposed to the fish and still show no signs of ich or scratching, should I quarantine them, treat them with hyposalinity or copper? Again they are not showing signs, but as a safe measure should I do something as a preventative action besides feeding them food enriched with vitamins like selcon or extreme garlic?
Also, I plan on upgrading to a 120 gallon in the future and basically transfering everything from my nano to that slowly over a period of time ofcourse.
As a general rule of thumb, I know that I should quarantine everything myself from now on, but should I copper treat or hyposalinity treat all of any future fish that will go into that 120 including my two clowns that I have?
I don't want to introduce the clowns to stress, but at the same time, I don't want them harboring a parasite (even if they are not showing any signs at the time) to be able to transfer it to a future fish in the 120 gallon that had just come out of quarantine.
I read a link in an ich thread on another forum that stated that the only way to rid the fish of ich even if they are not showing signs is copper in quarantine for 4 weeks after no visible signs of ich and also leaving them out of the display tank for about 60 days.
It seems like most people will treat only if there are signs of scratching or visual evidence. My two clowns are not showing either signs.
Should all fish be pre-treated in quarantine with copper or hyposalinity or other meds prior to adding them to a display tank regardless if they are showing signs of infection or not?
What should I do?
