I wouldn't try to thin them. Take some off the edge and put them by themselves if you want to see if they will open up more.
I would think you would just make a colony with bare spots.

I personally like the solid colony look and those are nice.

This is NOT a selling or trading forum. There are forums specifically for that purpose. It was tolerated in the past but the threads became more and more cluttered with request which then became sale/trade threads.
