Need an idea. possible tunicate?

I have had this colony for about 8 months. it had this brown jelly on it since the beginning i figured it was part of the zoa mat. after further inspection it looks more like a sea squirt or tunicate because of the "intake holes" it doesnt cause a problem for me but i recently gave a frag to a friend and it seems to be smothering her polyps. just wondering what it is and if injecting kalk or something would get rid of it?

It looks more like an encrusting sponge to me from the pictures then sea squirts/tunicates.

+1 on sponge. Shouldn't be too hard to remove.

Take it out of the tank and give it a scrub with an old toothbrush. Freshwater dip before placing it back in the tank.
