It's seems that my emperor angel has this HLLE (Head and Lateral Line Erosion).
Suspecting from when I had a short in the tank cause by my pump. I've also notice it on queen angel not as noticeable as the emperor.

My question is does it heal as tissue will grow back or anyway to reverse it once it has? This my sound stupid, but I am assuming this is not a virus or bacteria? If that the case then it's not contagious..?

Any info would be great, as I've never had to deal with this..

Also their eating and swimming as normal

Not contagious, may heal with time. I've had great success with reversing it using miracle mud. Although large angles sometimes don't heal completely.

Pristine water, good diet, vitamins, and time usually clear it up. Nobody knows what causes it, latest suspect is carbon dust.

You might not get any good answers on the causes. I have gotten some freebies for my FOWLR (old) and the cause of nearly every one of these was bad tank conditions and bad diet. I have had good luck with a nice diet of about 50% NLS pellets, 25% PE Mysis (not the off brand) and 25% of seafood mix from the local chineese grocer (fish, octopus, squid, cuttlefish heads, etc). If it is a tank, then some greens too. You can make them look a lot better.

I had a Koran that would show signs of HLLE everytime I would try running carbon. I would have to remove the carbon and feed a good vitamin rich flake food and a few days later all would be good.

Thank you folks, sorry I was gone to the lake. From what I've read here it's sounds like there is hope. I do feed normally NLS pellets ans flake alone with selcon and other frozen product that I got from chinese store and mix my own cocktail.

I usually just use Omega one flakes. that is what brings the color back on my Koran

My blue faced angel had HLLE and I turned off carbon (I got the recommendation from the folks on here), fed it selcon and vita-chem- soaked spirulina, nls pellets, water changes and he is making a recovery. His color came back, erosions have almost completely healed and fins we're improving.

This was over a span of a couple weeks.

Vitachem is a good product too...
...Stray voltage ,carbon, diet, water quality ,,sure they may be linked to HLLE ,but the bottom line is HLLE is caused by captivity

I think so too. A list of things that were NOT suspected of causing HLLE would be a short one. If you looked hard enough, you'd find someone who thinks cheese causes HLLE.

Lol, so I guess no one has a concrete answer as to what cause it. I could only point out as to what did happen prior to the emperor getting HLLE, they were in QT in treatment for ich and the water did get dirty and was over due for a change as I got caught of on work. Then one of my pump got plugged up and jam which cause a shorty in my tank. How did I know you may ask, well I got zapped pretty good. I never got around putting a GFCI on that outlet. I would say it might of been 2-3 days before I noticed the pump.

there are studies that show that carbon is the cause
I think that study suspected carbon dust. Avoid cheap carbon and rinse well and I think carbon is safe to use. I'm just guessing, but running carbon in a reactor may produce some of the dust particles that the study suspected.
