Hi and thanks for reading this . I hope its cuz u can help me . So i am looking to find some coraline algae scrapings or anything that i can use to help seed with coraline spores or chips whatever it takes to get good coraline growth in a few new reefs that r set up if anyone can help me with this it would be great . I know that alot of reefers have this growing on everything and i figured it wouldnt hurt to ask if i can buy some or trade for some im out of work right now so the sweetest thing would b ro get some for as little as possiable .. Thanks in advance and for any tricks or knolage i can get on helping to get some good purples andpinks in my reef tanks i have a well established reef with alot of corals and healthy good growth but the coraline has barely grown in alot of places ...... Thanks again Bill

I'm near you...I se some snail shells and rubble with some pink/purple on it ...feel free to swing by (pm for addy)

The type of coraline that i have spreading in my dt is the dark red and its really nice looking but thats the only color i have had to start with i dont have any other color really besides that so any colors would b really nice to c covering my tanks the red is covering my korila pump but it kinda blends in with the pump it would b cool to have it have a bunch of colors......... Thanks againbif anyone can help

Fetta i hope it works and anyone who would like to know if it does can send me a friend request and in a few weeks or sooner if i see results i plan on starting a thread to talk about it and explain exactly what i did and what additives ive been useing to hopefully help anyone that is looking for a way to grow coraline fasyer i researched and put together a plan on how to make tgis happen lets all hope that there r good positive results that come of it .

Hey mike ive been tryen that method for about a month and ive had a little start that way in one of my tanks im not sure if the medium hardness toothbrush was to soft or my lighting was to different than the light it was grown in . Im not sure i do know that if u have a pump like a hydor korilia covered or with at least a little coraline on it that whatever tank u put it in it blows spores threw the tank and that makes it grow i upgraded my korilia to a bigger korilia and put my old one in my daughters reef tank and mine was covered in the red coraline that i have in my tank and withen a few days her rocks and stuff have the red coraline all over them growing now

Thanks for the info i just moved 4 coraline covered rocks into my 150 and scrapped the soft coraline off them i hope it works we shall see good luck

Thanks mike good luck to u too . Theres a web site saltwateraquarium.com that sells hydor pumps and purple up in a package they call it spore shooters the pump is covered in coraline and they say that it works for growing coraline fast its a cool concept but its a little too much for me to afford at this time . U should check it out

Ya ive heard the sane about that stuff too alot of people have told me to use it that its soo good and works fast but i have alot invested and alot of hard to keep corals and fish and inverts all thriveing and very healthy and to trade the balance and nice beatiful stuff i have liveing in my reef tanks for some nice looking purple and pink coraline is not worth the risk thats why im tryen the scrapings and chips along with scuffing the pink and purple i have i have is the way im going i have also rubbed some rocks together in front of my pumps as well to try and knock spores loose too but did it in a way to not desturb nything on the rocks that i didnt want to harm . Ive also been thinning out my reefs by selling and tradeing some of my hard corals that demand and use more of my calcium and other stuff that i hope will help save nutrientsfor the coraline to use . Not sure if that will help but i sure hope it does cuz i got rid of some really nice healthy hatd corals in hopes it does . Let me know if u find something that u think has helped u with the fast growth of coraline and ill do the same for u

Having the right ALK, CA, and MAG levels is most important for growing coraline. Having competing corals that use those elements doesnt help either. Also too much light can be bad, mine always grew better in low light. Get one rock/rubble with some and theres no need to scrape or spread spores. Purple up is a form of calcium/sugar, never had good results with it but it never hurt anything. It might cause other algaes to bloom tho. Often waterchanges with decent salt should help. The red colored stuff the grows whirling plates like a monti cap might not be coraline at all even tho it feels calcified.

I have a bottle of purple up if you want one-free, and may have some coraline covered rubble too. It takes time to grow coraline but can be alot longer on base rock/marco dry stuff.

I once had a tank full of sps and as the sps grew and demanded more ca etc I lost my coraline and couldnt get it back. Using kalk may help, using too much gfo may kill it.

HTH
