Need crab ID help please.

Need ID help please. I've been hearing this snapping noise like a mantis shrimp in my tank for months now. There was one big mantis shrimp but I was able to catch him but the snapping noise at night continued. I was also losing every hermit crab and snail I put in the tank. This thing also ate my blue tangs tail and some other small fish I had in there. Last night I set a trap using a cut up water bottle and baited it with some hermit crabs. I noticed this morning I caught this weird crab thing. Could this be the snapping culprit? Do crabs make popping or snapping sounds like mantis or pistol shrimps? If so what kind of crab is it? Thanks.

I dont know of any crabs that make a poping noise except the mantis and pistol shrimp. That crab i am not sure but the claws on it make it one that should go to tge sump. Are you sure you dont have another mantis shrimp?

I doubt that's the source of the popping unless he's knocking rocks or shells around on the glass.

Looks like a stone crab to me, but it's hard for me to tell specific species when they are so small.

I'd take him out though, def a grumpy meat eater.

Crabs don't do the clicking sound you're hearing. You still have at least one pistol shrimp or mantis shrimp.

That crab looks like a red stone crab. I have heard of them but never seen one. Can you give us a picture with just the crab and not whatever it's wrapped in? Like put him in a bowl by itself.

Now I'm going to tell you like I tell everyone else, Stone crabs claws are Awesomely delicious !

Ya put it in the sump

Yep, stone crab, extremely destructive. They'll eat anything they can catch, including sleeping fish.

I already flushed him as I do not have a sump. I'll see if the clicking sound stops tonight. I have reset the trap hoping if there is still a mantis shrimp I'll get him as well.
