I am currently setting up a 300 gallon display with dimensions of 72 * 36 * 27

I have a 72" aquatinics constellation T5 fixture that has 14, 36" bulbs.

7 on each side.

I realize additional T5's will be needed.

I am very very interested in setting up the profilux dimmable lighting system for storms, cloud cover, sunrise, and sunset.

Knowing I will need a few dimmable ballast to do this, is there any way to also utilize my existing lights in addition to the profilux ballast?

Or would I need to use profilux ballast for all lighting?

I planned to add to simusticks as well.

Having said that, what effects could I get if I must use the existing as a constant on/off fixture?

I assume I could do sunrise and sunset, and possibly storms.

But cloud cover and effects like that would not work with a constantly lit additional fixture.

Please let me know if I am on the right track.

Also, how many additional T5's do you think I would need, and how many ballast would it require. I would prefer to stick with 36" T5's. However if you were to come up with with a combo of different sizes, that's fine too.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi

Well your questions come at the right time as we are just launching two fully dimmable systems both can be in 36" the only restrictive will be in the amount of tubes you wish to run, personally 8 per unit should suffice, and as you tank is 36" wide you could in theory utilise 4 units total amount of bulbs 36.

But this all depends on if you wish to start from scratch.

If you wish to use your existing lighting then we are in the process of launching all ranges of dimmable ballasts which you can use withn your own fixture. GHL being the only manufacturer with access to this concept at present.

So to your other questions, answered below

Or would I need to use profilux ballast for all lighting?

ANS - No you can mix and match

I planned to add to simusticks as well.

Having said that, what effects could I get if I must use the existing as a constant on/off fixture?

Ans - You would not get much in the way of true sun rise or set as your lamos would have to be off and then start the simustick dimming

I assume I could do sunrise and sunset, and possibly storms.

ANS - YES

But cloud cover and effects like that would not work with a constantly lit additional fixture.

ANS - You would need dimmable ballasts for this

ANS I was quoted to have 16 x 54W tubes on a tank 48 x48 x 27 so you really would be looking at a similar amount, but take into account you are looking at 36 watts, you are restricted by the 72" length of your tank

All dimmable fixtures and ballasts launch in January

Then perhaps i will setup the system using my current fixture only, and in january look and see what options arise.

Seeing as my tank will be cycling at best by that point, shouldnt be much of an issue.

thanks very much for your help.

I look forward to seeing all the new options next year.

I should be able to announce everything by mid November.

We are working with 3 companies and getting them all talking is quite a logistical head ache, but making headway now.
