Coral beauty angel, in QT, 24 hours after delivery from Live Aquaria. (Not DD), he arrived in hypo salinity and I have acclimated him up from 23 to 24 ppt in those 24 hours. Today I added some brine shrimp to his tank and shortly after he began swimming strangely gasping for air and is now lying on the bottom of the tank. I did a large water change which pepped him up a little but he is still very unresponsive. I tested pH and ammonia pH is at 8.0 ammonia is at 0.2 before the water change. Any ideas what is going on?

Also, he hasn't shown an appetite yet since arriving, but may have picked at some nori. He seemed fine right up until the brine shrimp, which had been given a couple drops of selcon. The display tank as well as the other QT also got the brine shrimp with no adverse effects.

Is there plenty of circulation in the tank? (oxygen) Is this QT tank new or has it been set up for awhile? An Ammonia reading is not good. This food your feeding, are you siphoning out the leftovers or are you relying on the filter to handle it? It might not be able to keep up.

Do you have some ammonia reducer like seachem prime you could add, or do another water change to lower the ammonia.

He didn't make it [emoji852]️

It was a QT with some live rock in it. I had added Prime, but he must have been very sensitive to even the small amount that built up. It was only 24 hours. I suppose something else may have been going on, but he went down so fast.

The other angel in the other tank is doing fine.

Doesn't mean you or your QT was the problem although I have never used LR in my QT, just glass, light and heater....refreshing 1/3 of the water every 2 days.

sometimes they just die from the transfer....we never took the journey...may have been a bit rough...
