Hello Everyone,

Im in the process of setting up a 120 gal, the question I have is about the Ecotech marine vortech MP40w Gen 2. I know the are expensive, but are the worth they it. I had a reeflow dart and OM4way on a 90 gal. that worked great but it was a little loud and used a lot of power. The Ecotech use less power a seem to produce good flow. Just looking for good feedback before I spent alot of money.

Also all I need 2 for my setup, right.

I just recently bought one of these, and I must say, so far I am pretty impressed.

I'm sure someone with more experience on these than me will chime in and tell you more about it. But so far I say yes, it has been worth it.

I just bought 2 and one was DOA. Hopefully they stand behind their product. Controller on the one won't even light up.

That seems to happen a lot with them. Maybe they just don't ship well.

Again, I have no personal experience with this, but I have heard great thigs about there customer service.

Good luck

I bought two of them a couple months ago. I have had no problem with them. The ability to adjust flow to different settings is nice. You can check the EcoTech site listed on RC for other opinions. Those with problems seem to have them handled quickly.
They were worth the money in my opinion.

I had one on my 65g. It was a gen1 unit, so I can't speak to the wireless features. The flow was great, I wish somehow that you were able to direct the flow. For my taste, it was too loud, which is not to say it is loud by any means, but it was an extra hum that I wanted to get rid of as my tank is in my living room. I've gone to Tunze on my new 180g setup.

I just got one a week ago for my 90g build, and am testing it on my 55. I really love it; it is non-intrusive in your tank, mine at least is dead quiet, there are many modes to choose from (I use random, others make waves), you can slow it down for feeding and nighttime, and it does not transfer heat into the tank. The flow seems really wide but there is a trench along the glass where the flow dug out the sand. I am going to be using coarser sand for the next build, so hopefully it will not move. Also, Ecotech's customer service is excellent.

I have two mp40ws on my 155-gallon and the only complaint I have is the noise they make. They aren't loud; they just aren't as quiet as I thought they would be. The pros absolutely outweigh the cons, however, and I would highly recommend them to you. As an aside, the customer service EcoTech Marine offers is excellent!

They're great. However, definitely not silent. I have a gen2 MP40w, and had some grinding noise out of the box. Called them, sent it in, had it back in the tank in 2 days and the grinding was gone. Great customer service.

The flow modes are great, and adjusting them is simple.

However, if you're a nut about noise. 2 Tunzes may be a better purchase. In my case, since my tank is so small, I wanted to only use 1 pump, and have it take up as little room as possible. So I chose the VorTech.

Looking back... if I could do it again... I would probably go with 2 controllable Tunzes and the aquasurf module for my AC3. I have some friends doing amazing things with that combination. I certainly do not regret my VorTech purchase by any means, but for my particular situation... 2 Tunzes probably would have worked out better in the long run.
