Need feedback on terminating hypo QT with Flame angel

hey all,

Here is my dilema. I have had a couple of small hippo tangs and a flame angel in hypo QT for about 1.5 months. They went in upon purchase and of course after 3 day, the Ick broke out on the tangs. So, down went the specific gravity (strict 1.009) and it has been at hypo QT levels for over a month. Throughout this time the Ick has come and gone on all fish, with the tangs showing minor signs of visual reinfection upto about 3 weeks ago, but periodic rubbing up to about 1.5 weeks ago.

Now, the issue is more with the Flame Angel. It was fat when I got it, but over the last two weeks I have had ever increasing difficulty in maintaining its weight. It always has an appetite and is still active, but it is looking a little pale that last two days. It is fed from 2 to 4 times a day, everything from Formula 1 and 2, mysis shrimp, cyclopeze, and everyother day application of zoecon. The tangs are now eating nori, so they are looking really good, but the flame has not shown the same interest in the nori.

Obviously in a hypo QT there is no live rock to forage on, which must be taking its toll on its weight.

So, my thoughts are that I am going to start slowly raising the SG of the water and attempt to get them into the display in about 1 to 1.5 weeks. This is definitely much sooner than is recommended from articles on holding fish for atleast 30 days after last signs of infection. However, I am balancing the current status of the Flame with prolonging its time in the QT and not being able to forage on LR. OR, could the fish have intestinal worms that could be affecting things? I am at somewhat of a loss.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

personally ive never has good luck with hypo sg the stuff i use is a walmart its in a small container and is pure copper, i usually does that in the tank about 4 hours later every fish in the qt tank has no ich and after another treatment never gets it back. as for feeding it seems like you are doing the right thing if its still not fat with those feedings it would have to be a internal parasite. i would try aquarum pharms anything they are usually very very good ive use the little blue bottles meta something sorry im all out and just tossed the bottles but it smells like greentea but that as work the best for those problems i would just raise the sg slowly usually 1 sg per day is good if stresses 1 every other day and use the copper at walmart and the meta aquarium pharms and that should work perfectly

try A fresh water dip if the fish is still strong enough .I never
use copper because it is extremely bad for fish . copper is
known to burn their gills and shorten there life span.

Internal parasites are always a possibility with wild caught fish. I believe there are medications to fight off internal parasites.

Okay, I think I will try the Metronidazole and then try to follow up with adding some Beta-glucans to the feed. I hope this helps!

Thanks all.

I got a royal gramma a few months ago, never used a QT. It broke out with ich and I could not get it out of the main tank. So I just started mixing all my foods with Seachem Garlic mix and vitamins, dosed the tank with some herbal ich treatment thats safe for inverts, and all went well. Everyone says that stuff doesnt work, but none of my inverts showed any signs of problems, and my ich was gone for good in 2 weeks. I continue to mix all my foods with garlic and selcon vitamin mix and all my fish are extremely lively and healthy.
