hey all,
Here is my dilema. I have had a couple of small hippo tangs and a flame angel in hypo QT for about 1.5 months. They went in upon purchase and of course after 3 day, the Ick broke out on the tangs. So, down went the specific gravity (strict 1.009) and it has been at hypo QT levels for over a month. Throughout this time the Ick has come and gone on all fish, with the tangs showing minor signs of visual reinfection upto about 3 weeks ago, but periodic rubbing up to about 1.5 weeks ago.
Now, the issue is more with the Flame Angel. It was fat when I got it, but over the last two weeks I have had ever increasing difficulty in maintaining its weight. It always has an appetite and is still active, but it is looking a little pale that last two days. It is fed from 2 to 4 times a day, everything from Formula 1 and 2, mysis shrimp, cyclopeze, and everyother day application of zoecon. The tangs are now eating nori, so they are looking really good, but the flame has not shown the same interest in the nori.
Obviously in a hypo QT there is no live rock to forage on, which must be taking its toll on its weight.
So, my thoughts are that I am going to start slowly raising the SG of the water and attempt to get them into the display in about 1 to 1.5 weeks. This is definitely much sooner than is recommended from articles on holding fish for atleast 30 days after last signs of infection. However, I am balancing the current status of the Flame with prolonging its time in the QT and not being able to forage on LR. OR, could the fish have intestinal worms that could be affecting things? I am at somewhat of a loss.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
