Ok I need some ideas or advice on a new fish for my 46 bow. I belive that from previous post everyone has heard about all the stupid little isopods that are in my tank. I think they started reproducing big time when I started feeding freeze dried cyclops eze to my coral. I know they are supposed to be a good thing but they are everywere. They are taking over the tank. I need a peacefull fish that will eat them. After reading hcs3s article on lined wrases I think the six line is out. As are dotybacks, I need something that will leave my clowns and clown gobies alone. Also I am planning on adding for shrimp. Ideas???

Thanks

Floyd

I dig the wrasse, your choosing isopods over fish in the display tank? why not have isopods in a sump or fuge? leave the tank for the fish?

???? I want to get rid of the isopods. I want a fish to eat them. But a wrasse might hurt my gobies or shrimp.

doh, mis read it, most wrasse are cool w/ shrimp, at least most reef safe wrasse i should say, your gobies fine.... go to wetwebmedia.com to find out more about reef safe wrasse

Well, you can try a target/spotted mandarin, but they are notoriously difficult to keep because pods are the ony thing they will usually eat. Add to that they don't often ship well. It would be perfect with your clown gobies though as it is a very peaceful and slow-moving fish [also not a jumper so you dont have to worry about your tank being open.]

Beyond that, you could try a scooter blenny or red scooter blenny. They are marked difficult to keep for the same reason - they generally only eat live food like pods they can hunt.

The problem with finding a peaceful hunting fish like this is that most of them jump as a defense mechanism. [This would include most of your gobies, jawfish, and wrasses.] The only two I can think of that dont seem to jump are the above, and the green mandarin.

Hope that was somewhat helpful. :(

I LOVE my possum wrasses. They are small, hardy, interesting to look at, very reef safe, not aggressive and eat pods all day long. I've seen them at MS and TWP locally. Or I've ordered my arrowhead possum wrass from Petsolutions.com.

I have gobies and shrimp too with no problems having them together.

FWIW, I have a GSM clown, a YWM goby, a cleaner shrimp, and a 6 line wrasse. The wrasse has never harmed any of those, or anything else that I wouldn't want him to touch. The 6 line is very common and I've only heard of one or two cases where they were mean. I really think that is the perfect fish for your scenario.
