I also used the red powder type granules that CR sells, and the fish seem to like them ok. The only problem with them is that they float so long that a lot wind up getting pulled down into the overflow. It also doesn't do as well at feeding anything like gobies that stay at the bottom or in the rocks.

I got some of the food samples that were at the swap, but they're about gone. It's the Esera granules. I kinda like them because some float and some sink. I can't find them anywhere though. The nearest dealer that the manufacturer lists is in Memphis.

I do supplement with some mysis shrimp, and occasionally some blood worms. I don't do blood worms as often because I read that they are 20ppm of phosphates and mysis are about 3ppm.

So what kind of food do you all like that I can either buy locally or buy in bulk over the web? What's the price, where, and why do you like it?

personally I love the PE mysis for LPS and larger fish. I feed Hikari spirulina brine and mysis almost everday. For smaller Feeders or for feeding reaction I love the frozen cyclopeeze. Aquarium is the only place ive been able to find it locally.

Ocean Nutrition pellets for me when it comes to "processed" food. Sinks slowly and all the fish go for it. You can buy it locally at AM. Those Sera granules work well also.

Wish I had seen the post earlier. I just got back from AM, and didn't get anything. Russell and I both figured the pellets would just sink like pebbles, so I didn't get it. Thanks for the advice though. I may go back and get some sometime.

You're more than welcome to try some of mine if you like. If the meeting is held at my house just remind me.

I may take you up on it if I don't buy some first. Where do you find is the best price on it? I'm willing to buy more than just a small can if the price is better. I can't buy gallons, but you know what I mean.

I don't use that much so I can't say where to get the best price. 100 g cost me $6 at AM.

Yeah, that's probably the best it's going to get. I'm going to have to limit my visits to the LFS's around here. The wallet doesn't like my frequent trips.

I also use the red powder type granules that CR sells. I have found two solutions to it getting pulled into the overflow.

1. Take a pinch and releasing it below the surface of the water. It doesn't float back up.

2. I bought a floating plastic feeding ring with a suction cup to hold it in place. Putting the food in the ring lets it soak up water and sink out of the ring. The good thing about that is it gradually gets saturated and releases it slowly, so the fish have more time to catch it. I think I paid $2 or $3 at Petsmart for it. It works great.

I did think about the floating rings. The only problem I see is that I'd have a huge fish fight with all of them trying to get at that small ring. If I could find a bigger ring, it would be fine.

I'll try putting the food in under water and maybe do that till I run out of this food...then try the Ocean Nutrition.

New Life Spectrum is a good pellet, I can give you some at the next meeting, Pet Co carries it,as well as other LFS. Ocean Nutrition just came out with a Cyclopese in Gel form, I got some at MACNA, every one fish and corals went crazy for it . Could have been because they hadn't been fed much all last week, now that i think of it.

I turn off my pumps when I feed. That way none gets into the overflow and the corals get a shot at some of it, along with spot feeding etc.
Yet another reason to use a controller.
